In general, when someone dies, the estate must go through probate which can be a complicated and lengthy process. But many states provide less complicated options for smaller estates.Kansas law provides that the court shall determine whether an estate shall be administered as a simplified estate. In making such determination, the court may consider the size of the estate; the degree of kinship of the heirs, devisees and persons seeking appointment as executor; the solvency and nature of the estate; the wishes of the heirs and devisees; the probable cost of estate administration and settlement; and any other pertinent matters.
