For the purposes of this article, the following words and terms shall have the following meanings, unless a different meaning is expressly stated or clearly indicated by the context:
Terms Used In Alabama Code 37-4-80
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- following: means next after. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- person: includes a corporation as well as a natural person. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
- rights-of-way: as used in this article does not authorize the commission to prescribe the location or routing of any pipeline, equipment, facility or building, or any of the foregoing. See Alabama Code 37-4-80
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the several territories of the United States. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
- United States: includes the territories thereof and the District of Columbia. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
