- AANHPI: means Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander. See California Education Code 89297
- Abstract of judgment: In a federal criminal proceeding, A certification from a U.S. District Court clerk that a judgment of restitution was entered against the defendant owing to the victim. If the defendant inherits, owns, or sells real property or holdings, these assets can then be attached at the state and local levels as well.
- Acquittal:
- Judgement that a criminal defendant has not been proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
- A verdict of "not guilty."
- action taken: means a collective decision made by a majority of the members of a legislative body, a collective commitment or promise by a majority of the members of a legislative body to make a positive or a negative decision, or an actual vote by a majority of the members of a legislative body when sitting as a body or entity, upon a motion, proposal, report, resolution, order, or recommendation. See California Education Code 89305.4
- Admissions data: means information from the most recently enrolled fall semester class including the total number of applications, the total number of accepted students, and the 75th, 50th, and 25th percentile scores for the undergraduate grade point averages and law school admission test scores of admitted students. See California Education Code 67102
- Advertise: as used in this chapter , includes, but is not limited to, any public communication, as defined in subdivision (a) of Section 651, the issuance of any card, sign, or device to any person, or the causing, permitting, or allowing of any sign or marking on, or in, any building or structure, or in any newspaper or magazine or in any directory, or any printed matter whatsoever, with or without any limiting qualification. - Affected county: means a county in which any land of the district or agency is situated. See California Elections Code 10500
- agency: means any district or agency of the type designated by and formed pursuant to the provisions of any principal act that incorporates this part. See California Elections Code 10500
- agency: means every state office, officer, department, division, bureau, board, commission, or other state agency, except that the term agency shall not include:

- agreement: means the total legal obligation that results from the parties' agreement as determined by this code and as supplemented by any other applicable laws. See California Commercial Code 1201
- Allegation: something that someone says happened.
- Amortization: Paying off a loan by regular installments.
- Annual percentage rate: The cost of credit at a yearly rate. It is calculated in a standard way, taking the average compound interest rate over the term of the loan so borrowers can compare loans. Lenders are required by law to disclose a card account's APR. Source: FDIC
- Appeals board: means the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board. See California Education Code 89529.15
- Appellate: About appeals; an appellate court has the power to review the judgement of another lower court or tribunal.
- Approved lending institution: means a qualified mortgage lender approved by the agency for participation in a program of loan insurance, including those successors and assigns of any such institution as are permitted by the agency. See California Health and Safety Code 51603
- Approved program: means a program for the education of physician assistants that has been formally approved by the board. See California Business and Professions Code 3501
- area median income: means the median family income of a geographic area of the state, as annually estimated by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development pursuant to Section 8 of the United States Housing Act of 1937. See California Health and Safety Code 50093
- Armed forces: means the United States Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Space Force, or Coast Guard. See California Education Code 88113
- Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
- Assistive device: means any instrument, apparatus, or contrivance, including any component or part thereof or accessory thereto, that is used or intended to be used, to assist an individual with a disability in the mitigation or treatment of an injury or disease or to assist or affect or replace the structure or any function of the body of an individual with a disability, except that this term does not include prescriptive lenses and other ophthalmic goods unless they are sold or dispensed to a blind person, as defined in §. - Associate: as used in this chapter , means an unlicensed person who has earned a master's or doctoral degree qualifying the person for licensure and is registered with the board as an associate. See California Business and Professions Code 4980.03
- At-large method of election: means any of the following methods of electing members to the governing body of a political subdivision:

- Attorney-in-fact: A person who, acting as an agent, is given written authorization by another person to transact business for him (her) out of court.

- Bail: Security given for the release of a criminal defendant or witness from legal custody (usually in the form of money) to secure his/her appearance on the day and time appointed.
- Bailee: means a person that by a warehouse receipt, bill of lading, or other document of title acknowledges possession of goods and contracts to deliver them. See California Commercial Code 7102
- Ballot card: means a card or a number of cards upon which are printed, or identified by reference to the ballot, the names of candidates for nomination or election to one or more offices or the ballot titles of one or more measures. See California Elections Code 302

- Ballot on demand system: means a self-contained system that allows users to do both of the following on an as-needed basis:

- Ballot title and summary: means , for a statewide initiative measure or measure proposed by the Legislature, the summary of the chief purpose and points including the fiscal impact summary of any measure that appears in the state voter information guide. See California Elections Code 303.5
- Bank: means a person engaged in the business of banking, and includes a savings bank, savings and loan association, credit union, and trust company. See California Commercial Code 1201
- Bankruptcy: Refers to statutes and judicial proceedings involving persons or businesses that cannot pay their debts and seek the assistance of the court in getting a fresh start. Under the protection of the bankruptcy court, debtors may discharge their debts, perhaps by paying a portion of each debt. Bankruptcy judges preside over these proceedings.
- Bar passage data: means the most current cumulative bar pass rates defined and reported by the examining committee of the State Bar. See California Education Code 67102
- Bearer: means a person in possession of a negotiable instrument, document of title, or certificated security that is payable to bearer or endorsed in blank. See California Commercial Code 1201
- Bill of lading: means a document evidencing the receipt of goods for shipment issued by a person engaged in the business of transporting or forwarding goods. See California Commercial Code 1201
- board: means the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians of the State of California. See California Business and Professions Code 4501
- Board: means the Veterinary Medical Board. See California Business and Professions Code 4810
- Board: as used in this chapter , means the Board of Behavioral Sciences. See California Business and Professions Code 4980.03
- Board: means the Board of Psychology. See California Business and Professions Code 2902

- Branch: includes a separately incorporated foreign branch of a bank. See California Commercial Code 1201
- Buyer in ordinary course of business: means a person that buys goods in good faith, without knowledge that the sale violates the rights of another person in the goods, and in the ordinary course from a person, other than a pawnbroker, in the business of selling goods of that kind. - Carrier: means a person that issues a bill of lading. See California Commercial Code 7102
- Case law: The law as laid down in cases that have been decided in the decisions of the courts.
- Catalog or similar sale: means a sale in which neither the seller nor any employee or agent of the seller nor any person related to the seller nor any person with a financial interest in the sale participates in the diagnosis of the buyer's condition or in the selection or fitting of the device. See California Civil Code 1791
- Chancellor: means the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges. See California Education Code 52651
- Circulating title and summary: means the text that is required to be placed on a petition for signatures that is either one of the following:

- Classification: means that each position in the classified service shall have a designated title, a regular minimum number of assigned hours per day, days per week, and months per year, a specific statement of the duties required to be performed by the employees in each such position, and the regular monthly salary ranges for each such position. See California Education Code 88001
- clearly and conspicuously: means a larger type than the surrounding text, or in a contrasting type, font, or color to the surrounding text of the same size, or set off from the surrounding text of the same size by symbols or other marks, in a manner that clearly calls attention to the language. See California Civil Code 1791
- Clothing: means any wearing apparel, worn for any purpose, including under and outer garments, shoes, and accessories composed primarily of woven material, natural or synthetic yarn, fiber, or leather or similar fabric. See California Civil Code 1791
- Commissioner: means any county agricultural commissioner. See California Food and Agricultural Code 26
- committee: means a diversion evaluation committee. See California Business and Professions Code 3534.1
- Common law: The legal system that originated in England and is now in use in the United States. It is based on judicial decisions rather than legislative action.
- Community-based organizations: means public nonprofit benefit corporations of demonstrated effectiveness approved by the superintendent to provide educational services to eligible legalized persons. See California Education Code 52651
- Consignee: means a person named in a bill of lading to which or to whose order the bill promises delivery. See California Commercial Code 7102
- Consignor: means a person named in a bill of lading as the person from which the goods have been received for shipment. See California Commercial Code 7102
- Consumables: means any product that is intended for consumption by individuals, or use by individuals for purposes of personal care or in the performance of services ordinarily rendered within the household, and that usually is consumed or expended in the course of consumption or use. See California Civil Code 1791
- Consumer: means a natural individual. See California Civil Code 1785.3
- consumer: means a natural individual who has made application to a person for employment purposes, for insurance for personal, family, or household purposes, or the hiring of a dwelling unit, as defined in subdivision (c) of Section 1940. See California Civil Code 1786.2
- Consumer credit reporting agency: means any person who, for monetary fees, dues, or on a cooperative nonprofit basis, regularly engages in whole or in part in the business of assembling or evaluating consumer credit information or other information on consumers for the purpose of furnishing consumer credit reports to third parties, but does not include any governmental agency whose records are maintained primarily for traffic safety, law enforcement, or licensing purposes. - Consumer goods: means any new product or part thereof that is used, bought, or leased for use primarily for personal, family, or household purposes, except for clothing and consumables. See California Civil Code 1791
- contract: means the bargain of the parties in fact, as found in their language or inferred from other circumstances, including course of performance, course of dealing, or usage of trade as provided in Section 1303. See California Commercial Code 1201
- County: includes "city and county. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
- County: includes city and county. See California Food and Agricultural Code 29

- County office: means the office filled by any county officer. See California Elections Code 313

- Credit report: A detailed report of an individual's credit history prepared by a credit bureau and used by a lender in determining a loan applicant's creditworthiness. Source: OCC
- creditor: means the state or the department or agency of the state seeking to collect the liability. See California Code of Civil Procedure 688.040
- Creditor: includes a general creditor, a secured creditor, a lien creditor, and any representative of creditors, including an assignee for the benefit of creditors, a trustee in bankruptcy, a receiver in equity, and an executor or administrator of an insolvent debtor's or assignor's estate. See California Commercial Code 1201
- Customer: means a natural person who deals with a depositary. See California Civil Code 1858
- debtor: means the debtor from whom the liability is sought to be collected. See California Code of Civil Procedure 688.040
- Delivery order: means a record that contains an order to deliver goods directed to a warehouse, carrier, or other person that in the ordinary course of business issues warehouse receipts or bills of lading. See California Commercial Code 7102
- Demotion: means assignment to an inferior position or status without the employee's written voluntary consent. See California Education Code 88001
- Department: means the Department of Consumer Affairs. See California Business and Professions Code 3704
- Department: means the State Department of Education. See California Education Code 52651
- Department: means the Department of Food and Agriculture. See California Food and Agricultural Code 32

- Depositary: means a person who in the ordinary course of business regularly receives property from customers for the purpose of repair or alteration. See California Civil Code 1858

- Director: means a member of the governing body. See California Elections Code 10500

- Disability: means a medical condition, mental disability, or physical disability, as those terms are defined in subdivisions (i), (j), and (l) of §. See California Elections Code 354.5
- disabled: includes mental or physical illness and mental or physical injury including any illness or injury resulting from pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical condition. See California Education Code 89529.15
- Disciplinary action: includes any action whereby an employee is deprived of any classification or any incident of any classification in which he or she has permanence, including dismissal, suspension, demotion, or any reassignment, without his or her voluntary consent, except a layoff for lack of work or lack of funds. - disclose: means to disclose, release, transfer, disseminate, or otherwise communicate all or any part of any record orally, in writing, or by electronic or any other means to any person or entity. See California Civil Code 1798.3
- Dismissal: The dropping of a case by the judge without further consideration or hearing. Source:

- dissenting interest: means the interest of a member that satisfies all of the following conditions:

- dissenting member: means the recordholder of a dissenting interest, and includes an assignee of record of that interest. See California Corporations Code 17711.02
- Distributor: means any individual, partnership, corporation, association, or other legal relationship that stands between the manufacturer and the retail seller in purchases, consignments, or contracts for sale of consumer goods. See California Civil Code 1791
- District-based elections: means a method of electing members to the governing body of a political subdivision in which the candidate must reside within an election district that is a divisible part of the political subdivision and is elected only by voters residing within that election district. See California Elections Code 14026
- Document of title: includes a bill of lading, dock warrant, dock receipt, warehouse receipt, or order for the delivery of goods, and also any other document which in the regular course of business or financing is treated as adequately evidencing that the person in possession of it is entitled to receive, hold, and dispose of the document and the goods it covers. - Dwelling: means a place where a person resides and may include but is not limited to the following:

- Electioneering: means the visible display or audible dissemination of information that advocates for or against any candidate or measure on the ballot within the 100 foot limit specified in subdivision (b). See California Elections Code 319.5
- Elective office: means any office that may, under the principal act of the district or agency, be filled by way of an election. See California Elections Code 10500
- Elective officer: means "elective officer" as defined by the principal act of each district or agency or if not defined, any officer of a district or agency holding an office that can be filled by election. See California Elections Code 10500
- Electronic: means relating to technology having electrical, digital, magnetic, wireless, optical, electromagnetic, or similar capabilities. See California Commercial Code 1201
- Embezzlement: In most states, embezzlement is defined as theft/larceny of assets (money or property) by a person in a position of trust or responsibility over those assets. Embezzlement typically occurs in the employment and corporate settings. Source: OCC
- Employee: means any of the following:

- Employment outcomes for graduates: means the results of a survey by the law school, taken three years after graduation, that breaks down the employment rate of graduates in each of the first three years after graduation, including the rate of employment of graduates in jobs where a juris doctor degree is required by the employer and the rate of employment of graduates in jobs where a juris doctor degree is an advantage in employment. - employment purposes: when used in connection with an investigative consumer report, means a report used for the purpose of evaluating a consumer for employment, promotion, reassignment, or retention as an employee. See California Civil Code 1786.2
- Enrollment data: means information about the number of students who are admitted to the school per class per year for the past three years, the number of students who transfer to and from the school per class per year for the past three years, and the number of students who do not continue to attend the school each year for the past three years on either a voluntary or involuntary basis. - Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
- Executive director: means the Executive Director of the California Housing Finance Agency. See California Health and Safety Code 51603
- Executor: A male person named in a will to carry out the decedent
- Experience: as used in this chapter , means experience in interpersonal relationships, psychotherapy, marriage and family therapy, direct clinical counseling, and nonclinical practice that satisfies the requirements for licensure as a marriage and family therapist. See California Business and Professions Code 4980.03
- Extradition: The formal process of delivering an accused or convicted person from authorities in one state to authorities in another state.
- Faculty diversity: means the representation of faculty members from different racial, ethnic, gender, and disability groups, and other underrepresented groups. See California Education Code 87890
- faculty service area: means a service or instructional subject area or group of related services or instructional subject areas performed by faculty and established by a community college district. See California Education Code 87743.1
- Fair Credit Reporting Act: A federal law, established in 1971 and revised in 1997, that gives consumers the right to see their credit records and correct any mistakes. Source: OCC
- Fair Debt Collection Practices Act: The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is a set of United States statutes added as Title VIII of the Consumer Credit Protection Act. Its purpose is to ensure ethical practices in the collection of consumer debts and to provide consumers with an avenue for disputing and obtaining validation of debt information in order to ensure the information's accuracy. - Federal Reserve System: The central bank of the United States. The Fed, as it is commonly called, regulates the U.S. monetary and financial system. The Federal Reserve System is composed of a central governmental agency in Washington, D.C. - Fee simple: Absolute title to property with no limitations or restrictions regarding the person who may inherit it.
- File: when used in connection with information on any consumer, means all of the information on that consumer recorded and retained by a consumer credit reporting agency, regardless of how the information is stored. See California Civil Code 1785.3
- file: when used in connection with information on any consumer, means all of the information on that consumer recorded and retained by an investigative consumer reporting agency regardless of how the information is stored. See California Civil Code 1786.2
- Finance charge: The total cost of credit a customer must pay on a consumer loan, including interest. The Truth in Lending Act requires disclosure of the finance charge. Source: OCC
- Fixed Rate: Having a "fixed" rate means that the APR doesn't change based on fluctuations of some external rate (such as the "Prime Rate"). In other words, a fixed rate is a rate that is not a variable rate. A fixed APR can change over time, in several circumstances:
- You are late making a payment or commit some other default, triggering an increase to a penalty rate
- The bank changes the terms of your account and you do not reject the change.
- The rate expires (if the rate was fixed for only a certain period of time).
- Forbearance: A means of handling a delinquent loan. A
- Forgery: The fraudulent signing or alteration of another's name to an instrument such as a deed, mortgage, or check. The intent of the forgery is to deceive or defraud. Source: OCC
- FTES: means full-time equivalent students. See California Education Code 87890
- Full pay: means the gross base pay earnable by the employee and subject to retirement contribution if he or she had not vacated his or her position. See California Education Code 89529.02
- Full-time faculty: means a faculty member who is employed by a community college on a full-time basis and teaches more than a 67-percent load. See California Education Code 87890
- Fund: as used in this chapter , means the Home Purchase Assistance Fund. See California Health and Safety Code 51342

- Garnishment: Generally, garnishment is a court proceeding in which a creditor asks a court to order a third party who owes money to the debtor or otherwise holds assets belonging to the debtor to turn over to the creditor any of the debtor
- General district election: means an election held pursuant to the provisions of this part. See California Elections Code 10500
- Genuine: means free of forgery or counterfeiting. See California Commercial Code 1201
- Good faith: means honesty in fact and the observance of reasonable commercial standards of fair dealing. See California Commercial Code 7102
- Goods: means all things that are treated as movable for the purposes of a contract for storage or transportation. See California Commercial Code 7102
- Governing body: means the board of directors of a district or agency or the board or body which governs the activities of the district or agency. See California Elections Code 10500
- Grace period: The number of days you'll have to pay your bill for purchases in full without triggering a finance charge. Source: Federal Reserve
- Grantor: The person who establishes a trust and places property into it.
- Guarantor: A party who agrees to be responsible for the payment of another party's debts should that party default. Source: OCC
- Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
- health care facility: means a facility, other than a facility licensed under Division 2 (commencing with Section 1200) of the Health and Safety Code, that is owned or operated by a health care service plan licensed pursuant to Chapter 2. See California Business and Professions Code 4027

- Home appliance: means any refrigerator, freezer, range, microwave oven, washer, dryer, dishwasher, garbage disposal, trash compactor, or room air-conditioner normally used or sold for personal, family, or household purposes. See California Civil Code 1791
- Home electronic product: means any television, radio, antenna rotator, audio or video recorder or playback equipment, video camera, video game, video monitor, computer equipment, telephone, telecommunications equipment, electronic alarm system, electronic appliance control system, or other kind of electronic product, if it is normally used or sold for personal, family, or household purposes. See California Civil Code 1791
- Homestead: means the principal dwelling (1) in which the judgment debtor or the judgment debtor's spouse resided on the date the judgment creditor's lien attached to the dwelling, and (2) in which the judgment debtor or the judgment debtor's spouse resided continuously thereafter until the date of the court determination that the dwelling is a homestead. - Immigrant: means a person who is a citizen of a country other than the United States and is eligible for education services in California or a naturalized United States citizen who is now residing in California. See California Education Code 52651
- Implied warranty of fitness: means (1) that when the retailer, distributor, or manufacturer has reason to know any particular purpose for which the consumer goods are required, and further, that the buyer is relying on the skill and judgment of the seller to select and furnish suitable goods, then there is an implied warranty that the goods shall be fit for such purpose and (2) that when there is a sale of an assistive device sold at retail in this state, then there is an implied warranty by the retailer that the device is specifically fit for the particular needs of the buyer. - Indemnification: In general, a collateral contract or assurance under which one person agrees to secure another person against either anticipated financial losses or potential adverse legal consequences. Source: FDIC
- Indenture: means an agreement entered into by the board pursuant to which revenue bonds are issued, regardless of whether the agreement is expressed in the form of a resolution of the board or by other instrument. See California Education Code 90011
- independent service dealer: means any individual, partnership, corporation, association, or other legal entity, not an employee or subsidiary of a manufacturer or distributor, that engages in the business of servicing and repairing consumer goods. See California Civil Code 1791
- Indictment: The formal charge issued by a grand jury stating that there is enough evidence that the defendant committed the crime to justify having a trial; it is used primarily for felonies.
- individual: means a natural person. See California Civil Code 1798.3
- Industrial disability leave: means temporary disability as defined in Divisions 4 (commencing with Section 3200) and 4. See California Education Code 89529.02
- Injunction: An order of the court prohibiting (or compelling) the performance of a specific act to prevent irreparable damage or injury.
- Inspector: means the supervisor of the precinct board of which he or she is a member. See California Elections Code 325
- instructional aide: means a person employed to assist classroom instructors and other faculty in the performance of their duties and in the supervision of students and in instructional tasks which, in the judgment of the faculty to whom the instructional aide is assigned, may be performed by a person not qualified as a classroom instructor. - insurance fund: means the California Housing Loan Insurance Fund, which is hereby created. See California Health and Safety Code 51603
- Insurance reserve requirement: means an amount established by the agency, which shall, as of any particular date of computation, be at least equal to the total of both of the following:

- Insured loan: means a loan insured pursuant to Chapter 4 (commencing with Section 51650). See California Health and Safety Code 51603
- Interest rate: The amount paid by a borrower to a lender in exchange for the use of the lender's money for a certain period of time. Interest is paid on loans or on debt instruments, such as notes or bonds, either at regular intervals or as part of a lump sum payment when the issue matures. Source: OCC
- investigative consumer report: means a consumer report in which information on a consumer's character, general reputation, personal characteristics, or mode of living is obtained through any means. See California Civil Code 1786.2
- investigative consumer reporting agency: means any person who, for monetary fees or dues, engages in whole or in part in the practice of collecting, assembling, evaluating, compiling, reporting, transmitting, transferring, or communicating information concerning consumers for the purposes of furnishing investigative consumer reports to third parties, but does not include any governmental agency whose records are maintained primarily for traffic safety, law enforcement, or licensing purposes, or any licensed insurance agent, insurance broker, or solicitor, insurer, or life insurance agent. - Licensed psychologist: means an individual to whom a license has been issued pursuant to the provisions of this chapter, which license is in force and has not been suspended or revoked. See California Business and Professions Code 2902
- Licensing board: means any board, as defined in Section 22, the State Bar of California, and the Department of Real Estate. See California Business and Professions Code 30
- Lineal descendant: Direct descendant of the same ancestors.
- maintain: includes maintain, acquire, use, or disclose. See California Civil Code 1798.3
- Manufacturer: means any individual, partnership, corporation, association, or other legal relationship that manufactures, assembles, or produces consumer goods. See California Civil Code 1791
- Medical director: means a physician and surgeon who is a member of a health care facility's active medical staff and who is knowledgeable in respiratory care. See California Business and Professions Code 3704
- medical information: means information on a person's medical history or condition obtained directly or indirectly from a licensed physician, medical practitioner, hospital, clinic, or other medical or medically related facility. See California Civil Code 1786.2
- Meeting: includes any congregation of a majority of the membership of a legislative body at the same time and place to hear, discuss, or deliberate upon any item that is within the subject matter jurisdiction of the legislative body to which it pertains. See California Education Code 89305.1
- middle-income families: means persons and families of low or moderate income whose income exceeds the income limit for lower income households. See California Health and Safety Code 50093
- milk plant: as used in this article , means any place, structure, or building where a handler receives market milk and weighs, tests, standardizes, pasteurizes, homogenizes, separates, bottles or packages such milk. See California Food and Agricultural Code 62143
- Minimum finance charge: The minimum, or fixed, finance charge that will be imposed during a billing cycle. A minimum finance charge usually applies only when a finance charge is imposed, that is, when you carry over a balance. Source: Federal Reserve
- Money: means a medium of exchange that is currently authorized or adopted by a domestic or foreign government. See California Commercial Code 1201
- month: means a calendar month, unless otherwise expressed. See California Civil Code 14

- Multifamily rental housing: means any existing structure of more than four dwelling units or any work or undertaking of more than four units of new construction, improvement, or rehabilitation for the provision of housing. See California Health and Safety Code 51401
- Multifamily residential housing: means an improvement on real estate which is a building or buildings containing five or more residential units. See California Health and Safety Code 51603

- Open-end credit: A credit agreement (typically a credit card) that allows a customer to borrow against a preapproved credit line when purchasing goods and services. - optometrist: means a person who is licensed to practice optometry in this state under the authority of this chapter. See California Business and Professions Code 3003

- Other specified medical services: means tests or examinations performed or ordered by a PA practicing in compliance with this chapter or regulations of the board or the Medical Board of California promulgated under this chapter. See California Business and Professions Code 3501
- Paper cast vote record: means an auditable document that corresponds to the selection made on the voter's ballot and lists the contests on the ballot and the voter's selections for those contests. See California Elections Code 305.5
- Permanent: means that the employee has a right to continued employment unless dismissed or laid off. See California Education Code 89530
- permanent employee: includes tenure in the classification in which the employee passed the required probationary period and includes all of the incidents of that classification. See California Education Code 88001

- Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
- Pleadings: Written statements of the parties in a civil case of their positions. In the federal courts, the principal pleadings are the complaint and the answer.
- Political subdivision: means a geographic area of representation created for the provision of government services, including, but not limited to, a general law city, general law county, charter city, charter county, charter city and county, school district, community college district, or other district organized pursuant to state law. - Power of attorney: A written instrument which authorizes one person to act as another's agent or attorney. The power of attorney may be for a definite, specific act, or it may be general in nature. - Practice agreement: means the writing, developed through collaboration among one or more physicians and surgeons and one or more physician assistants, that defines the medical services the physician assistant is authorized to perform pursuant to Section 3502 and that grants approval for physicians and surgeons on the staff of an organized health care system to supervise one or more physician assistants in the organized health care system. - Presiding officer: A majority-party Senator who presides over the Senate and is charged with maintaining order and decorum, recognizing Members to speak, and interpreting the Senate's rules, practices and precedents.

- Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.

- Program manager: means the staff manager of the diversion program, as designated by the executive officer of the board. See California Business and Professions Code 3501
- Project: means any one or more dormitories or other housing facilities, boarding facilities, student union or activity facilities, vehicle parking facilities, alternative transportation programs, or any other auxiliary or supplementary facilities for individual or group accommodation, owned or operated or authorized to be acquired, constructed, furnished, equipped, and operated by the board for use by students, faculty members, or other employees of any one or more campuses of the California State University, or a combination of those facilities, which may include facilities already completed and facilities authorized for future completion, or any other facilities designated by the board as a project in providing for the issuance of revenue bonds or notes. - Testator: A male person who leaves a will at death.
