(a) “Action” includes a civil action and a special proceeding of a civil nature.
Terms Used In California Code of Civil Procedure 2016.020
- Action: includes a civil action and a special proceeding of a civil nature. See California Code of Civil Procedure 2016.020
- Court: means the trial court in which the action is pending, unless otherwise specified. See California Code of Civil Procedure 2016.020
- Electronic: means relating to technology having electrical, digital, magnetic, wireless, optical, electromagnetic, or similar capabilities. See California Code of Civil Procedure 2016.020
- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
- Writing: includes printing and typewriting. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
(b) “Court” means the trial court in which the action is pending, unless otherwise specified.
(c) “Document” and “writing” mean a writing, as defined in § 250 of the Evidence Code.
(d) “Electronic” means relating to technology having electrical, digital, magnetic, wireless, optical, electromagnetic, or similar capabilities.
(e) “Electronically stored information” means information that is stored in an electronic medium.
