When authorized by the governing body, the custodian of funds may direct the depository of the funds to pay any warrant drawn upon the custodian upon presentment of the warrant to the depository, to the same extent and with the same effect as though the warrant were a check drawn upon the depository by the custodian. The direction shall be in writing and shall identify by name and signature the warrant issuing officer or officers and the depository may rely upon such direction and identification in the payment of warrants.
