Terms Used In Hawaii Revised Statutes 383-2
- Benefits: means the money payments payable to an individual, as provided in this chapter, with respect to the individual's unemployment. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 383-1
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- crew leader: means an individual who:
(A) Furnishes individuals to perform service in agricultural labor for any other person; (B) Pays (either on the crew leader's own behalf or on behalf of the other person) the individuals so furnished by the crew leader for the service in agricultural labor performed by them; and (C) Has not entered into a written agreement with the other person under which the individual is designated as an employee of the other person. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 383-2 - Employer: means :
(1) Any employing unit which for some portion of a day within the current calendar year has or had in employment one or more individuals; and
(2) For the effective period of its election pursuant to section 383-77, any other employing unit which has elected to become subject to this chapter. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 383-1
- Employment: includes , but is not limited to, any service performed prior to January 1, 1978, which was employment as defined in this section prior to such date and, subject to the other provisions of this section, service performed after December 31, 1977, by an employee as defined in section 3306(i) and (o) of the federal Unemployment Tax Act, including service in interstate commerce. - Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
- State: includes the states of the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Virgin Islands. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 383-1
- United States: includes the states, the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; and, after December 31 of the year in which the Secretary of Labor approves for the first time an unemployment insurance law of the Virgin Islands submitted to the Secretary of Labor for approval, the term "United States" shall also include the Virgin Islands. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 383-2
