- Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
- Attorney: includes a counselor or other person authorized to appear and represent a party in an action or special proceeding. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- Baseline: Projection of the receipts, outlays, and other budget amounts that would ensue in the future without any change in existing policy. Baseline projections are used to gauge the extent to which proposed legislation, if enacted into law, would alter current spending and revenue levels.
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- council: refers to the rare disease advisory council established by section 2 of this chapter. See Indiana Code 16-46-17-1
- council: refers to the interagency state council on black and minority health. See Indiana Code 16-46-6-1
- Donor: The person who makes a gift.
- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
- Fair Credit Reporting Act: A federal law, established in 1971 and revised in 1997, that gives consumers the right to see their credit records and correct any mistakes. Source: OCC
- Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
- Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another.
- fund: refers to the Indiana health care professional recruitment and retention fund. See Indiana Code 16-46-5-3
- fund: refers to the bone marrow and organ donor fund established by section 2 of this chapter. See Indiana Code 16-46-12-1
- grant program: refers to the prevention and addressing of health issues and challenges grant program established by section 3 of this chapter. See Indiana Code 16-46-16.5-1
- Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
- Indemnification: In general, a collateral contract or assurance under which one person agrees to secure another person against either anticipated financial losses or potential adverse legal consequences. Source: FDIC
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- local board of health: means a board established under IC 16-20-2, IC 16-20-3, IC 16-20-4, or IC 16-22-8. See Indiana Code 16-46-10-0.5
- minority: means an individual identified as any of the following:

- Mortgage: The written agreement pledging property to a creditor as collateral for a loan.
- Oversight: Committee review of the activities of a Federal agency or program.
- Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
- person: means an individual, employer, employer association, nonprofit organization, for-profit organization, unit (as defined in IC 36-1-2-23), school corporation, charter school, accredited nonpublic school, research institution, health insurance plan, health insurance ministry, or any combination of these. - person: means an individual, employer, employer association, nonprofit organization, for-profit organization, institution of higher education, health insurance plan, health ministry, or any combination of these. See Indiana Code 16-46-16.7-2
- Population: has the meaning set forth in Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- President pro tempore: A constitutionally recognized officer of the Senate who presides over the chamber in the absence of the Vice President. The President Pro Tempore (or, "president for a time") is elected by the Senate and is, by custom, the Senator of the majority party with the longest record of continuous service.
- Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
- Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
- Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
- shortage area: means a county, city, town, census tract, or township designated by the state department as underserved by health care professionals under section 7 of this chapter. See Indiana Code 16-46-5-6
- Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
- Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
- Testimony: Evidence presented orally by witnesses during trials or before grand juries.
- Trust account: A general term that covers all types of accounts in a trust department, such as estates, guardianships, and agencies. Source: OCC
- Trustee: A person or institution holding and administering property in trust.
- Truth in Lending Act: The Truth in Lending Act is a federal law that requires lenders to provide standardized information so that borrowers can compare loan terms. In general, lenders must provide information on Source: OCC
- unit: refers to the homeowner protection unit established under this chapter. See Indiana Code 4-6-12-1
- unit: refers to the identity theft unit established under section 2 of this chapter. See Indiana Code 4-6-13-1
- Year: means a calendar year, unless otherwise expressed. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
