- Agency: means an authority, a board, a branch, a bureau, a commission, a committee, a council, a department, a division, an office, a service, or other instrumentality of the executive, including the administrative, department of state government. See Indiana Code 4-2-6-1
- agricultural commodity: means poultry, poultry products, cattle, dairy products, sheep, wool, goats, mint, soybeans, wheat, or small grains. See Indiana Code 15-15-11-1
- agricultural commodity: means any plant or part of a plant and animals or animal products produced primarily for sale, consumption, propagation, or other use by humans or animals. See Indiana Code 15-16-5-1
- agricultural hemp seed: means Cannabis sativa seed that meets any labeling, quality, and other standards set by the state seed commissioner and that is intended for sale or is sold to, or purchased by, licensed growers for planting. See Indiana Code 15-15-13-2
- agricultural seed: means the seeds of legume, grass, forage, cereal, fiber, or oil crops. See Indiana Code 15-15-1-2
- Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- ammonia: means anhydrous ammonia (NH3) that is intended for use as a fertilizer for agricultural purposes. See Indiana Code 15-16-1-2
- animal: means all vertebrate and invertebrate species, including humans and other mammals, birds, fish, and shellfish. See Indiana Code 15-16-5-2
- Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
- Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.

- brand: means a word, name, number, or design used to identify seed of one (1) person to distinguish it from seed of another person. See Indiana Code 15-15-1-3
- bushel: means fifty-six (56) pounds of corn by weight. See Indiana Code 15-15-12-2
- Business relationship: includes the following:

- buyer of grain: means a person, firm, limited liability company, or corporation regularly engaged in the business of buying grain or seed produced on a farm in Indiana. See Indiana Code 15-15-3-1
- certificate of financial responsibility: means a notarized statement from an officer of a bank or other financial institution attesting to the fact that a licensee under this chapter has adequate financial resources equal to the amount of liability insurance or bonding required by rule under section 58 of this chapter to protect persons who may suffer legal damages as a result of the applicator's pesticide operations or the pest inspector's inspections. - certified applicator: means any individual who is certified under this chapter as qualified to:

- Compensation: means any money, thing of value, or financial benefit conferred on, or received by, any person in return for services rendered, or for services to be rendered, whether by that person or another. See Indiana Code 4-2-6-1
- Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.

- direct supervision: refers to the supervision required under Indiana Code 15-16-5-10.5
- director: refers to the director of the department of agriculture. See Indiana Code 15-15-11-5
- director: refers to the director of the Indiana state department of agriculture or the person designated by the director of the Indiana state department of agriculture to carry out duties imposed on the director of the Indiana state department of agriculture under this chapter. See Indiana Code 15-15-12-6
- Discovery: Lawyers' examination, before trial, of facts and documents in possession of the opponents to help the lawyers prepare for trial.
- distribute: means to sell, offer to sell, barter, or supply or transport for sale agricultural or vegetable seed for sowing and seeding purposes in Indiana. See Indiana Code 15-15-1-6

- equipment: means any type of ground, water, or aerial apparatus or contrivance using motorized, mechanical, or pressurized power to apply any pesticide. See Indiana Code 15-16-5-13
- Equitable: Pertaining to civil suits in "equity" rather than in "law." In English legal history, the courts of "law" could order the payment of damages and could afford no other remedy. See damages. A separate court of "equity" could order someone to do something or to cease to do something. See, e.g., injunction. In American jurisprudence, the federal courts have both legal and equitable power, but the distinction is still an important one. - Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another.

- President pro tempore: A constitutionally recognized officer of the Senate who presides over the chamber in the absence of the Vice President. The President Pro Tempore (or, "president for a time") is elected by the Senate and is, by custom, the Senator of the majority party with the longest record of continuous service.
- private applicator: means a certified and permitted applicator who uses or supervises the use of restricted use pesticides for purposes of producing any agricultural commodity on property owned, rented, or managed by the employer or the applicator, if applied without compensation on the property of another person.
