1. A person otherwise licensed to practice medicine and surgery, osteopathic medicine and surgery, chiropractic, podiatry, or dentistry who is exclusively engaged in the practice of the person’s profession.

- Acupuncture: means a form of health care developed from traditional and modern oriental medical concepts that employs oriental medical diagnosis and treatment, and adjunctive therapies and diagnostic techniques, for the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health and the prevention of disease. See Iowa Code 148E.1
- Acupuncturist: means a person who is engaged in the practice of acupuncture. See Iowa Code 148E.1
- following: when used by way of reference to a chapter or other part of a statute mean the next preceding or next following chapter or other part. See Iowa Code 4.1
- Person: means a natural person. See Iowa Code 154A.1
2. A student practicing acupuncture under the direct supervision of a licensed acupuncturist as part of a course of study approved by the board.
