1. A school district shall make available advanced placement courses to its resident students through direct instruction on-site, collaboration with another school district, or by using the online Iowa advanced placement academy.

Terms Used In Iowa Code 261E.4

  • School: means an agency of the state or political subdivision of the state, individual, partnership, company, firm, society, trust, association, corporation, or any combination which meets any of the following criteria:
  • Student: means a person who enrolls in or seeks to enroll in a course of instruction offered or conducted by a school. See Iowa Code 261B.2
  • Student: includes an individual attending an accredited nonpublic school or the Iowa school for the deaf for purposes of sections 261E. See Iowa Code 261E.2
 2. A school district shall provide descriptions of the advanced placement courses available to students using a course registration handbook.
 3. A school district shall ensure that advanced placement course teachers or instructors are appropriately licensed by the board of educational examiners in accordance with chapter 256, subchapter VII, part 3, and meet the minimum certification requirements of the national organization that administers the advanced placement program.
 4. A school district shall establish prerequisite coursework for each advanced placement course offered and shall describe the prerequisites in the course registration handbook, which shall be provided to every eighth grade student prior to the development of the student‘s career and academic plan pursuant to section 279.61.
