1. To the extent moneys are available, a school district shall receive one thousand five hundred dollars per beginning administrator participating in the program. Moneys received by a school district pursuant to this section shall be expended to provide each mentor with an award of five hundred dollars per semester, at a minimum, for participation in the school district’s beginning administrator mentoring and induction program; to implement the plan; and to pay any applicable costs of the employer’s share of contributions to federal social security and the Iowa public employees’ retirement system or a pension and annuity retirement system established under chapter 294, for such amounts paid by the district.
Terms Used In Iowa Code 284A.8
- Administrator: means an individual holding a professional administrator license issued under chapter 256, subchapter VII, part 3, who is employed in a school district administrative position by a school district or area education agency pursuant to a contract issued by a board of directors under section 279. See Iowa Code 284A.2
- Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
- Beginning administrator: means an individual serving under an administrator license, issued by the board of educational examiners under chapter 256, subchapter VII, part 3, who is assuming a position as a school district principal or superintendent for the first time. See Iowa Code 284A.2
- Department: means the department of education. See Iowa Code 284A.2
- Mentor: means an individual employed by a school district or area education agency as a school district administrator or a retired administrator who holds a valid license issued under chapter 256, subchapter VII, part 3. See Iowa Code 284A.2
- Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
- School: means an agency of the state or political subdivision of the state, individual, partnership, company, firm, society, trust, association, corporation, or any combination which meets any of the following criteria:a. See Iowa Code 261B.22. If the funds appropriated for the program are insufficient to pay mentors and school districts as provided in this section, the department shall prorate the amount distributed to school districts based upon the amount appropriated. A school district shall give priority to fully funding the obligation to principal mentors. Remaining moneys, if any, shall first be used to fund superintendent mentors and then to fund other program costs and applicable costs described in subsection 1.
