1. In general, the allocation of duties of the department shall be as follows:

 a. Commissioner’s office.
 b. Division of administrative services.
 c. Division of criminal investigation.
 d. Division of state patrol.
 e. Division of state fire marshal.
 f. Division of narcotics enforcement.
 g. Office of drug control policy.

Terms Used In Iowa Code 80.4

  • Commissioner: means the commissioner of public safety. See Iowa Code 80.1A
  • Department: means the department of public safety. See Iowa Code 80.1A
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" may include the said district and territories. See Iowa Code 4.1
 2. The commissioner may appoint a chief, director, a first and second assistant to the director, and all other supervisory officers in each division. All appointments and promotions shall be made on the basis of seniority and a merit examination.
 3. The allocation of duties described in this section shall not be interpreted to prevent flexibility in interdepartmental operations or to forbid other divisional allocations of duties in the discretion of the commissioner.
