Terms Used In Kansas Statutes 22-3727a

  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.

(a) The county or district attorney shall, as soon as practicable, provide notification as provided in Kan. Stat. Ann. § 22-3303, 22-3305, 22-3428, 22-3428a, 22-3430 and 22-3431, and amendments thereto, and upon the escape or death of a committed defendant while in the custody of the secretary for aging and disability services, to any victim of the defendant’s crime whose address is known to the county or district attorney, and the victim’s family, if so requested and the family’s addresses are known to the county or district attorney. Such notice shall be required to be given only if the defendant was charged with any crime in article 33, 34, 35 or 36 ofchapter 21 of the Kansas Statutes Annotated, prior to their repeal, or articles 53, 54, 55 or 56 ofchapter 21 of the Kansas Statutes Annotated, or Kan. Stat. Ann. § 21-6104, 21-6325, 21-6326 or 21-6418 through 21-6422, and amendments thereto.

(b) As used in this section, “victim’s family” means a spouse, surviving spouse, children, parents, legal guardian, siblings, stepparents or grandparents.
