Terms Used In Kansas Statutes 40-777
- Agent: means an individual as defined in Kan. See Kansas Statutes 40-741
- Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
- Commissioner: means the commissioner of insurance of this state. See Kansas Statutes 40-741
- Service of process: The service of writs or summonses to the appropriate party.
- Society: means fraternal benefit society, unless otherwise indicated. See Kansas Statutes 40-741
- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Kansas Statutes 77-201
Every society authorized to do business in this state shall appoint in writing the commissioner of insurance as agent for service of process as provided in Kan. Stat. Ann. § 40-218, and amendments thereto. No such service shall require a society to file its answer, pleading or defense in less than 30 days from the date of mailing the copy of the service to a society. Legal process shall not be served upon a society except in the manner herein provided.
