Notwithstanding the provisions of Kan. Stat. Ann. § 74-4960, and amendments thereto, to the contrary, the surviving spouse of a member of the Kansas police and firemen’s retirement system who retired on a service-connected disability on March 8, 1972, who died on September 15, 1980, and whose death was not from the same proximate cause as such member’s service-connected disability shall be entitled to benefits under subsection (1)(a) of Kan. Stat. Ann. § 74-4959.
