- Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
- Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
- Care or treatment: means such necessary services as are determined by the secretary to be in the best interests of the physical and mental health of a substance abuser. See Kansas Statutes 76-12a22
- commissioner: means the commissioner of community services and programs. See Kansas Statutes 76-12a01
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
- Institution: means the following institutions: Osawatomie state hospital, Rainbow mental health facility, Larned state hospital, Parsons state hospital and training center, and Kansas neurological institute. See Kansas Statutes 76-12a01
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Secretary: means the secretary for aging and disability services. See Kansas Statutes 76-12a01
- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Kansas Statutes 77-201
- Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
- Substance abuser: means : (1) Any alcoholic, intoxicated person or person incapacitated by alcohol, as such terms are defined in Kan. See Kansas Statutes 76-12a22
- Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
