As used in KRS § 281.920 to KRS § 281.936:
(1) “Lienholder” means a person, including a secured party, with a lien indicated on a certificate of title issued by any state;

Terms Used In Kentucky Statutes 281.920

  • Certificate: means a certificate of compliance issued under this chapter to motor carriers. See Kentucky Statutes 281.010
  • Company: may extend and be applied to any corporation, company, person, partnership, joint stock company, or association. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
  • Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
  • Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt.
  • Motor vehicle: means any motor-propelled vehicle used for the transportation of passengers or property on a public highway, including any such vehicle operated as a unit in combination with other vehicles. See Kentucky Statutes 281.010
  • State: when applied to a part of the United States, includes territories, outlying possessions, and the District of Columbia. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010

(2) “Motor vehicle renting company” has the same meaning as in KRS § 281.687; and
(3) “Owner” when referring to a motor vehicle, means:
(a) The person or entity to whom a motor vehicle is registered;
(b) The person to whom a motor vehicle is leased, if the terms of the lease require the lessee to maintain and repair the vehicle; or
(c) A motor vehicle rental company, if the vehicle was rented pursuant to a rental agreement.
