- Action: includes all proceedings in any court of this state. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
- Administrative regulation: means an administrative regulation adopted by the department and filed and approved in accordance with KRS Chapter 13A that is designed to ensure the safety of boilers and pressure vessels that affects or may affect property rights of a designated class of owners, or designed for the prevention of loss or damage to property, loss of life, or personal injury from boiler or pressure vessel explosion or from certain indicated hazards related thereto. - Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- ASME: means American Society of Mechanical Engineers. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- boiler: shall include fired units for heating or vaporizing liquids other than water where these units are separate from processing systems and are complete within themselves:
(a) "Power boiler" means a boiler in which steam or other vapor is generated at a pressure of more than fifteen (15) pounds per square inch gauge. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010 - Boiler external piping: means boiler piping as defined by ASME. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Boiler inspector: means a duly authorized employee of the department who is charged with the responsibility of inspecting boilers and pressure vessels and with the enforcement of the state boiler laws. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- boilers: means and includes a closed vessel in which water or other liquid is heated, steam or vapor is generated, steam is superheated, or in which any combination of these functions is accomplished, under pressure or vacuum, for use externally to itself, by the direct application of energy from the combustion of fuels, or from electricity, solar or nuclear energy. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Certificate inspection: means an inspection, the report of which is used by the chief boiler inspector to determine whether or not a certificate, as provided by subsection (1) of KRS §. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Chief boiler inspector: means the person employed by the department who shall serve as the boiler section supervisor within the Division of Plumbing. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Commissioner: means the commissioner of Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Company: may extend and be applied to any corporation, company, person, partnership, joint stock company, or association. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
- Continuance: Putting off of a hearing ot trial until a later time.
- Department: means the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Division: means the Division of Plumbing in the department. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Domestic: when applied to a corporation, partnership, business trust, or limited liability company, means all those incorporated or formed by authority of this state. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
- emergency order: means an order of the department, chief boiler inspector, or boiler inspector issued in accordance with this chapter for the
prevention of:
(a) Loss or damage to property. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010 - Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- Federal: refers to the United States. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
- firm: means any individual, firm, partnership, or corporation. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
- Grace period: The number of days you'll have to pay your bill for purchases in full without triggering a finance charge. Source: Federal Reserve
- Heating boiler: means a steam or vapor boiler operating at pressures not exceeding fifteen (15) pounds per square inch gauge or a hot water boiler operating at pressures not exceeding one hundred sixty (160) pounds per square inch gauge or temperatures not exceeding two hundred fifty (250) degrees Fahrenheit. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Independent inspection agency: means a person or company licensed under KRS §. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- MAWP: means the maximum allowable working pressure for a boiler, pressure vessel, or piping system. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Month: means calendar month. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
- Oversight: Committee review of the activities of a Federal agency or program.
- Owner: when applied to any animal, means any person having a property interest in such animal. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
- Owner facility: means any facility licensed pursuant to KRS §. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Potable water: means water free from impurities present in amounts sufficient to cause disease or harmful physiological effects and conforming in its bacteriological and chemical quality to the requirements of the Division of Water or the administrative regulations of the department. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Power boiler: means a boiler in which steam or other vapor is generated at a pressure of more than fifteen (15) pounds per square inch gauge. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Pressure vessel: means a vessel in which the pressure is obtained from an external source or by the application of heat other than those vessels defined in subsection (1) of this section. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- Special boiler inspector: means any person employed by an insurance company authorized to insure boilers and pressure vessels in the Commonwealth and who holds a commission as provided in KRS §. See Kentucky Statutes 236.010
- State: when applied to a part of the United States, includes territories, outlying possessions, and the District of Columbia. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
- Year: means calendar year. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
