Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 11:1378

  • Attachment: A procedure by which a person's property is seized to pay judgments levied by the court.
  • Garnishment: Generally, garnishment is a court proceeding in which a creditor asks a court to order a third party who owes money to the debtor or otherwise holds assets belonging to the debtor to turn over to the creditor any of the debtor

Any retirement pay or pension paid to any judge or the surviving spouse of any judge under the unfunded judicial retirement plan is exempt from any state or municipal income tax, and is exempt from levy and sale, garnishment, attachment or any other process whatsoever, except as provided in La. Rev. Stat. 11:292.
