Each agency of the state which employs physicians, dentists or professional nurses to provide medical services for or on behalf of such agency and each agency of the state to whom any medical doctor, dentist or professional nurse donates their services may provide such persons with medical malpractice coverage at no cost to such persons. For the purposes of this Part the term “physician” shall mean any person holding a valid certificate to practice medicine issued pursuant to La. Rev. Stat. 37:1273; the term “dentist” shall mean any person holding a valid certificate to practice dentistry issued pursuant to La. Rev. Stat. 37:751 through La. Rev. Stat. 37:763; the term “professional nurse” shall mean any person holding a valid certificate to practice nursing pursuant to La. Rev. Stat. 37:921, La. Rev. Stat. 37:971 or La. Rev. Stat. 37:972. The coverage provided for herein shall apply only to those actions arising from services rendered as a direct result of such employment or donation.
