Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 33:2497
- Appointing authority: means any official, officer, board, commission, council, or person having the power to make appointments to positions in the municipal fire and police services. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 33:2473
- Board: means the municipal fire and police civil service board. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 33:2473
- Classified service: means every appointive office and position of trust or employment in the municipal government which has as its primary duty one of the functions specifically set forth to be included in the classified service by the provisions of this Part; and excludes all elective and appointive offices and positions of trust or employment which have a primary duty specifically set forth to be included in the unclassified service by the provisions of this Part. - Employee: means a person legally occupying a position. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 33:2473
The board shall adopt rules to provide for leaves of absence in the various classes of the classified service. Such rules shall provide for annual vacation and sick leaves with pay, and special leaves with or without pay. They may provide for special extended leaves with or without pay and for special extended leaves with or without pay or with reduced pay for employees disabled through injury or illness arising out of their employment. The right to regulate the time at which any employee may take an annual leave, or any other leave which is not beyond the control of the employee, shall be vested at all times with the appointing authority.
