As used in this subchapter, unless the context indicates otherwise, the following terms have the following meanings. [PL 1983, c. 583, §15 (RAL).]
1. Employee. “Employee” means a person who performs a service for wages or other remuneration under a contract of hire, written or oral, expressed or implied, but does not include an independent contractor engaged in lobster fishing. “Employee” includes school personnel and a person employed by the State or a political subdivision of the State.

Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes Title 26 Sec. 832
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Employee: includes school personnel and a person employed by the State or a political subdivision of the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 26 Sec. 832
- Employer: includes an agent of an employer and the State, or a political subdivision of the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 26 Sec. 832
- Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
- Person: means an individual, sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, association or any other legal entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 26 Sec. 832
- Public body: means all of the following:
2. Employer. “Employer” means a person who has one or more employees. “Employer” includes an agent of an employer and the State, or a political subdivision of the State. “Employer” also means all schools and local education agencies.

3. Person. “Person” means an individual, sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, association or any other legal entity.

4. Public body. “Public body” means all of the following:
A. A state officer, employee, agency, department, division, bureau, board, commission, council, authority or other body in the executive branch of State Government; [PL 1983, c. 583, §15 (RAL).]
B. An agency, board, commission, council, member or employee of the legislative branch of State Government; [PL 1983, c. 583, §15 (RAL).]
C. A county, municipal, village, intercounty, intercity or regional governing body, a council, school district or municipal corporation, or a board, department, commission, council, agency or any member or employee thereof; [PL 1983, c. 583, §15 (RAL).]
D. Any other body which is created by state or local authority or which is primarily funded by or through state or local authority, or any member or employee of that body; [PL 1983, c. 583, §15 (RAL).]
E. A law enforcement agency or any member or employee of a law enforcement agency; and [PL 1983, c. 583, §15 (RAL).]
F. The judiciary and any member or employee of the judiciary. [PL 1983, c. 583, §15 (RAL).]
