- Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry or the commissioner's designee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511
- Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Federal acts: means the Federal Meat Inspection Act and the Poultry Products Inspection Act. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Licensee: means any person who holds an unrevoked and valid unsuspended license issued under this Article. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 1012
- Livestock: means cattle, sheep, swine, goats or other designated animals, whether live or dead. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511
- Person: includes an individual, partnership, corporation, association or other business unit and an officer, agent or employee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511
- Poultry: means a domesticated bird, whether live or dead. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511
- Reporter: Makes a record of court proceedings and prepares a transcript, and also publishes the court's opinions or decisions (in the courts of appeals).
- Useable as human food: refers to a livestock or poultry carcass or part or product of a livestock or poultry carcass, unless it is denatured or otherwise identified as required by rules prescribed by the commissioner to deter its use as human food or as naturally inedible by humans. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 2511
- Venue: The geographical location in which a case is tried.
- Wood: means the severed but unprocessed fibrous derivative of trees, without regard for quality or grade and also means the chipped fibrous derivative of trees. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 10 Sec. 2361-A
