(1) The department may require a plant to provide chlorinating facilities for butter wash water.
    (2) A person who owns or operates a plant shall take all necessary precautions to prevent contamination of products.

Terms Used In Michigan Laws 288.718

  • Butter: means the product usually known as butter that is made exclusively from wholesome milk or cream, or both, with or without common salt, and with or without additional coloring matter and containing not less than 80% by weight of milk fat. See Michigan Laws 288.571
  • Department: means the Michigan department of agriculture. See Michigan Laws 288.572
  • Person: means an individual, partnership, company, limited liability company, cooperative, association, firm, trustee, educational institution, state or local government unit, or corporation. See Michigan Laws 288.576
    (3) In the packaging of butter and related products, a plant shall use commercially acceptable containers or packaging material that will protect the quality of the contents in a manner acceptable to the department. All cups or tubs containing 2 pounds or less shall have tops or covers that extend over the lip of the container to protect the product from contamination during subsequent handling.
