As used in this act:
(a) “Department” means the department of corrections.

- Department: means the department of corrections. See Michigan Laws 798.12
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, as well as to individuals. See Michigan Laws 8.3l
- Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
- Unit: means a special alternative incarceration unit. See Michigan Laws 798.12
(b) “Prisoner” means a person serving a term of incarceration under the jurisdiction of the department.
(c) “Probationer” means a person placed on probation pursuant to chapter XI of the code of criminal procedure, Act No. 175 of the Public Acts of 1927, being section 771.1 to 771.14a of the Michigan Compiled Laws.
(d) “Unit” means a special alternative incarceration unit.
