Missouri Laws 178.651 – Definitions
As used in sections 178.651 to 178.658, the following words mean:
(1) “Centers” or “centers for independent living”, community-based nonresidential programs designed to promote independent living for persons with disabilities;

- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- following: when used by way of reference to any section of the statutes, mean the section next preceding or next following that in which the reference is made, unless some other section is expressly designated in the reference. See Missouri Laws 1.020
- person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, and to partnerships and other unincorporated associations. See Missouri Laws 1.020
(2) “Division”, the division of vocational rehabilitation of the department of elementary and secondary education;
(3) “Nonprofit corporation”, a corporation in which no part of the net earnings inures to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual and the income of which is exempt from taxation under 26 U.S.C.A. section 501(c)(3);
(4) “Person with a disability”, any person who:
(a) Has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more of such person’s major life activities;
(b) Has a record of such an impairment; or
(c) Is regarded as having such an impairment.
