- Director: the director of the department of commerce and insurance. See Missouri Laws 375.001
- Insurer: all insurance companies, reciprocals, or interinsurance exchanges transacting the business of insurance in this state. See Missouri Laws 375.001

The director shall have power to examine and investigate into the affairs of every insurer in this state in order to determine whether such insurer has been or is engaged in any unfair method of competition or in any unfair or deceptive act or practice prohibited by sections 375.934 and 375.937.
