Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, a court may enhance the sentence for any person convicted of violating section 407.516, 407.521, 407.526, 407.536, 407.542 or 407.543 who has a prior conviction for any one of the aforegoing sections to a fine and to a time of imprisonment within the department of corrections for a term not to exceed that otherwise authorized by law for violation of a class E felony.
