Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 281-A:49
- Commissioner: means the labor commissioner appointed as provided in RSA 273. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 281-A:2
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
- Testimony: Evidence presented orally by witnesses during trials or before grand juries.
All process and procedure under the provisions of this chapter shall be as summary and simple as reasonable. The commissioner shall have the power, so far as it is necessary for the determination of matters within the commissioner’s jurisdiction, to subpoena witnesses, to administer oaths and to examine the books and records of parties to any proceedings under this chapter. The superior court shall, by proper proceedings, have power to enforce the attendance and testimony of witnesses and the production and examination of books, papers, and records before the commissioner.
