Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 40A:9-9

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. In addition to the officers and employees whose appointment is specifically provided for by law, the board of chosen freeholders of the county or the governing body of the municipality, as the case may be, may appoint or provide for the appointment of such other officers, agents and employees as may be required for the execution of the powers conferred upon said board or governing body or any board or officer of the county or municipality.

Whenever any officer or employee is temporarily absent, disabled or disqualified, the board of chosen freeholders of the county or the governing body of the municipality may designate some person to act in place of any such officer or employee during his temporary absence, disability or disqualification.
