A state employee who is a certified disaster service volunteer of the American red cross or who is a verified team rubicon volunteer may be granted leave from work with pay for not to exceed thirty work days in each year to participate in specialized disaster relief services, upon the request of the American red cross or of team rubicon for the services of that employee and upon the approval of that employee’s appointing authority. The appointing authority shall compensate an employee granted leave under this section at the employee’s regular rate of pay for those regular work hours during which the employee is absent from work.

- Appointing authority: means the officer, commission, board, or body having the power of appointment to, or removal from, positions in any office, department, commission, board, or institution. See Ohio Code 124.01
- Employee: means any person holding a position subject to appointment, removal, promotion, or reduction by an appointing officer. See Ohio Code 124.01
- state: means the state of Ohio. See Ohio Code 1.59
