(A) The supreme court shall appoint the clerk and deputy clerks of the court of claims who shall be licensed to practice law in the state, to serve at its pleasure. The appointment or removal of the clerk shall be in writing, and entered on the supreme court journal.

- Bond: includes an undertaking. See Ohio Code 1.02
- in writing: includes any representation of words, letters, symbols, or figures; this provision does not affect any law relating to signatures. See Ohio Code 1.59
- State: means the state of Ohio, including, but not limited to, the general assembly, the supreme court, the offices of all elected state officers, and all departments, boards, offices, commissions, agencies, institutions, and other instrumentalities of the state. See Ohio Code 2743.01
(B) The supreme court may require the clerk to give a bond in the amount and with the sureties as it directs, conditioned on the faithful discharge of his duties.
