Ohio Code 956.06 – Animal rescue registration
(A)(1) No person shall operate an animal rescue for dogs without first registering with the director of agriculture in accordance with division (C) of this section or rules adopted under section 956.03 of the Revised Code, as applicable. A registration is valid for one year.
Terms Used In Ohio Code 956.06
- agriculture: includes farming; ranching; aquaculture; algaculture meaning the farming of algae; apiculture and related apicultural activities, production of honey, beeswax, honeycomb, and other related products; horticulture; viticulture, winemaking, and related activities; animal husbandry, including, but not limited to, the care and raising of livestock, equine, and fur-bearing animals; poultry husbandry and the production of poultry and poultry products; dairy production; the production of field crops, tobacco, fruits, vegetables, nursery stock, ornamental shrubs, ornamental trees, flowers, sod, or mushrooms; timber; pasturage; any combination of the foregoing; the processing, drying, storage, and marketing of agricultural products when those activities are conducted in conjunction with, but are secondary to, such husbandry or production; and any additions or modifications to the foregoing made by the director of agriculture by rule adopted in accordance with Chapter 119 of the Revised Code. - Animal rescue for dogs: includes an individual or organization that offers spayed or neutered dogs for adoption and charges reasonable adoption fees to cover the costs of the individual or organization, including, but not limited to, costs related to spaying or neutering dogs. See Ohio Code 956.01
- Another: when used to designate the owner of property which is the subject of an offense, includes not only natural persons but also every other owner of property. See Ohio Code 1.02
- Person: includes an individual, corporation, business trust, estate, trust, partnership, and association. See Ohio Code 1.59
- state: means the state of Ohio. See Ohio Code 1.59
(2) A registration may be renewed. An application for renewal shall be submitted to the director at least ninety days prior to the expiration of the registration.
(3) The director shall not charge a registration fee to an animal rescue for dogs. However, if a person fails to renew a registration prior to its expiration, the director shall charge the person a late renewal fee of two hundred dollars.
(B) The director shall maintain a database of all persons that are registered to operate an animal rescue for dogs in this state.
(C) The director shall issue an animal rescue license for dogs registration in accordance with Chapter 4796 of the Revised Code to a person if either of the following applies:
(1) The person holds a license or registration in another state.
(2) The person has satisfactory work experience, a government certification, or a private certification as described in that chapter as an animal rescue for dogs operator in a state that does not issue that license or registration.
