Terms Used In Oregon Statutes > Chapter 125 - Protective Proceedings
- Action: means any proceeding commenced in a court in which the court may render a judgment. See Oregon Statutes 18.005
- Adjourn: A motion to adjourn a legislative chamber or a committee, if passed, ends that day's session.
- Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
- Affirmed: In the practice of the appellate courts, the decree or order is declared valid and will stand as rendered in the lower court.
- Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- Amortization: Paying off a loan by regular installments.
- Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
- Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
- Any other state: includes any state and the District of Columbia. See Oregon Statutes 174.100
- Appellate: About appeals; an appellate court has the power to review the judgement of another lower court or tribunal.
- Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
- Articles: means articles of incorporation, articles of conversion or articles of merger. See Oregon Statutes 62.015
- Articles of incorporation: means the articles of incorporation described in ORS § 65. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Articles of organization: means the document described in ORS § 63. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Attorney-in-fact: A person who, acting as an agent, is given written authorization by another person to transact business for him (her) out of court.
- Authorized representative: means an agent designated in a written statement signed by the registrant or other qualified applicant, the signing of which was witnessed. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Bankruptcy: Refers to statutes and judicial proceedings involving persons or businesses that cannot pay their debts and seek the assistance of the court in getting a fresh start. Under the protection of the bankruptcy court, debtors may discharge their debts, perhaps by paying a portion of each debt. Bankruptcy judges preside over these proceedings.
- Beneficiary: A person who is entitled to receive the benefits or proceeds of a will, trust, insurance policy, retirement plan, annuity, or other contract. Source: OCC
- Board: means board of directors. See Oregon Statutes 62.015
- Board of directors: means the individual or individuals who are vested with overall management of the affairs of a domestic corporation or foreign corporation, irrespective of the name that designates the individual or individuals. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Bond: means a contractual undertaking or instrument of a public body to repay borrowed moneys. See Oregon Statutes 287A.001
- Bylaws: means a set of provisions for managing and regulating a corporation's affairs that the corporation must adopt under ORS § 65. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Capital construction: has the meaning given that term in ORS § 310. See Oregon Statutes 287A.001
- Capital costs: has the meaning given that term in ORS § 310. See Oregon Statutes 287A.001
- Capital improvements: has the meaning given that term in ORS § 310. See Oregon Statutes 287A.001
- Certified copy: means the document, in either paper or electronic format, issued by the State Registrar of the Center for Health Statistics and containing all or a part of the information contained on the original vital record, and which, when issued by the state registrar, has the full force and effect of the original vital record. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Certifier: means a person required to attest to the accuracy of information submitted on a report. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Charity: An agency, institution, or organization in existence and operating for the benefit of an indefinite number of persons and conducted for educational, religious, scientific, medical, or other beneficent purposes.
- Chief judge: The judge who has primary responsibility for the administration of a court but also decides cases; chief judges are determined by seniority.
- Class: means a group of memberships that have the same rights, including rights that are determined by a formula that is applied uniformly, with respect to voting, dissolution, redemption and transfer. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Codicil: An addition, change, or supplement to a will executed with the same formalities required for the will itself.
- Common disaster: A sudden and extraordinary misfortune that brings about the simultaneous or near-simultaneous deaths of two or more associated persons, such as husband and wife.
- Common law: The legal system that originated in England and is now in use in the United States. It is based on judicial decisions rather than legislative action.
- Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
- Conservator: means a person appointed as a conservator under the provisions of this chapter. See Oregon Statutes 125.005
- Continuance: Putting off of a hearing ot trial until a later time.
- Contribution: means anything of value that a person contributes to the limited liability company as a prerequisite for or in connection with membership including cash, property or services rendered or a promissory note or other binding obligation to contribute cash or property or to perform services. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
- Cooperative: means a cooperative corporation that is subject to the provisions of this chapter. See Oregon Statutes 62.015
- Corporation: means a corporation that is not a cooperative. See Oregon Statutes 62.015
- Corporation: means a domestic corporation or a foreign corporation. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Court administrator: means a trial court administrator in a circuit court that has a trial court administrator and the clerk of the court in all other courts. See Oregon Statutes 18.005
- Court of competent jurisdiction: means a court within the United States with jurisdiction over a person subject to regulation under this chapter. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Credit enhancement device: means a letter of credit, line of credit, standby bond purchase agreement, bond insurance policy, reserve surety bond or other device or facility used to enhance the creditworthiness, liquidity or marketability of bonds or agreements for exchange of interest rates. See Oregon Statutes 287A.001
- Credit Score: A number, roughly between 300 and 800, that measures an individual's credit worthiness. The most well-known type of credit score is the FICO score. This score represents the answer from a mathematical formula that assigns numerical values to various pieces of information in your credit report. Source: OCC
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- Date of registration: means the month, day and year a vital record is incorporated into the official records of the Center for Health Statistics. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Dead body: means a human body or such parts of such human body from the condition of which it reasonably may be concluded that death occurred. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Decedent: A deceased person.
- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- Deliver: means to transfer by any method of delivery used in conventional commercial practice, including delivery by hand, mail, commercial delivery and electronic transmission. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
- Deposition: An oral statement made before an officer authorized by law to administer oaths. Such statements are often taken to examine potential witnesses, to obtain discovery, or to be used later in trial.
- Director: means an individual who acts as a member of the board of directors, who has a right to vote on questions concerning the management and regulation of a corporation's affairs and who is:
(a) An appointed director;
(b) A designated director; or
(c) A director elected by the incorporators, directors or members. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Discovery: Lawyers' examination, before trial, of facts and documents in possession of the opponents to help the lawyers prepare for trial.
- Dismissal: The dropping of a case by the judge without further consideration or hearing. Source:
- Distribution: means a direct or indirect transfer of money or other property, except of a limited liability company's own interests, or a limited liability company's incurrence of indebtedness to or for the benefit of the limited liability company's members in respect of a member's interests, whether in the form of a declaration or payment of profits, a purchase, retirement or other acquisition of interests, a distribution of indebtedness, or otherwise. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Docket: A log containing brief entries of court proceedings.
- Domestic corporation: means a nonprofit corporation that is not a foreign corporation and that is incorporated under or subject to the provisions of this chapter. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- domestic limited liability company: means an entity that is an unincorporated association that has one or more members and is organized under this chapter. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Domestic nonprofit corporation: means a corporation not for profit that is incorporated under ORS Chapter 65. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Domestic professional corporation: means a corporation that is organized under ORS Chapter 58 for the purpose of rendering professional services and for the purposes provided under ORS Chapter 58. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Donor: The person who makes a gift.
- Electronic funds transfer: The transfer of money between accounts by consumer electronic systems-such as automated teller machines (ATMs) and electronic payment of bills-rather than by check or cash. (Wire transfers, checks, drafts, and paper instruments do not fall into this category.) Source: OCC
- Electronic signature: means an electronic sound, symbol or process attached to or logically associated with a contract or other record that is executed or adopted by a person with the intent to attest to the accuracy of the facts in the record. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Entity: means a domestic or foreign limited liability company, corporation, professional corporation, foreign corporation, domestic or foreign nonprofit corporation, domestic or foreign cooperative corporation, profit or nonprofit unincorporated association, business trust, domestic or foreign general or limited partnership, two or more persons that have a joint or common economic interest, any state, the United States, a federally recognized Native American or American Indian tribal government or any foreign government. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Execution: means enforcement of the money award portion of a judgment or enforcement of a judgment requiring delivery of the possession or sale of specific real or personal property, by means of writs of execution, writs of garnishment and other statutory or common law writs or remedies that may be available under the law. See Oregon Statutes 18.005
- Executor: A male person named in a will to carry out the decedent
- Fair market value: The price at which an asset would change hands in a transaction between a willing, informed buyer and a willing, informed seller.
- Fetal death: means death prior to the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of human conception, irrespective of the duration of pregnancy, that is not an induced termination of pregnancy. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Fiduciary: A trustee, executor, or administrator.
- Fiduciary: means a guardian or conservator appointed under the provisions of this chapter or any other person appointed by a court to assume duties with respect to a protected person under the provisions of this chapter. See Oregon Statutes 125.005
- Final disposition: means the burial, interment, cremation, reduction, removal from the state or other authorized disposition of a dead body or fetus, except that when removal from the state is conducted by the holder of a certificate of removal registration issued under ORS § 692. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Financially incapable: means a condition in which a person is unable to manage financial resources of the person effectively for reasons including, but not limited to, mental illness, mental retardation, physical illness or disability, chronic use of drugs or controlled substances, chronic intoxication, confinement, detention by a foreign power or disappearance. See Oregon Statutes 125.005
- Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
- Foreign cooperative: means a cooperative corporation that is organized under laws other than the laws of this state. See Oregon Statutes 62.015
- Foreign corporation: means a corporation for profit that is incorporated under laws other than the laws of the state. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Foreign corporation: means a corporation that is organized under laws other than the laws of the state and that would be a nonprofit corporation if organized under the laws of the state. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Foreign limited liability company: means an entity that is an unincorporated association organized under laws other than the laws of the state and that is organized under a statute under which an association may be formed that affords to each of the entity's members limited liability with respect to the liabilities of the entity. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Foreign nonprofit corporation: means a corporation not for profit that is organized under laws other than the laws of the state. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Foreign professional corporation: means a professional corporation that is organized under laws other than the laws of the state. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Forgery: The fraudulent signing or alteration of another's name to an instrument such as a deed, mortgage, or check. The intent of the forgery is to deceive or defraud. Source: OCC
- Garnishment: Generally, garnishment is a court proceeding in which a creditor asks a court to order a third party who owes money to the debtor or otherwise holds assets belonging to the debtor to turn over to the creditor any of the debtor
- Guarantor: A party who agrees to be responsible for the payment of another party's debts should that party default. Source: OCC
- Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
- Guardian: means a person appointed as a guardian under the provisions of this chapter. See Oregon Statutes 125.005
- Habeas corpus: A writ that is usually used to bring a prisoner before the court to determine the legality of his imprisonment. It may also be used to bring a person in custody before the court to give testimony, or to be prosecuted.
- Human remains: means a dead body. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Incapacitated: means a condition in which a person's ability to receive and evaluate information effectively or to communicate decisions is impaired to such an extent that the person presently lacks the capacity to meet the essential requirements for the person's physical health or safety. See Oregon Statutes 125.005
- Indemnification: In general, a collateral contract or assurance under which one person agrees to secure another person against either anticipated financial losses or potential adverse legal consequences. Source: FDIC
- Individual: means a natural person. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Injunction: An order of the court prohibiting (or compelling) the performance of a specific act to prevent irreparable damage or injury.
- Institution: means any establishment, public or private, that provides inpatient or outpatient medical, surgical or diagnostic care or treatment or nursing, custodial or domiciliary care, or to which persons are committed by law. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Intangible property: Property that has no intrinsic value, but is merely the evidence of value such as stock certificates, bonds, and promissory notes.
- Inter vivos: Transfer of property from one living person to another living person.
- Interment: means the disposition of human remains by entombment or burial. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Interrogatories: Written questions asked by one party of an opposing party, who must answer them in writing under oath; a discovery device in a lawsuit.
- Intestate: Dying without leaving a will.
- Irrevocable trust: A trust arrangement that cannot be revoked, rescinded, or repealed by the grantor.
- Joint tenancy: A form of property ownership in which two or more parties hold an undivided interest in the same property that was conveyed under the same instrument at the same time. A joint tenant can sell his (her) interest but not dispose of it by will. Upon the death of a joint tenant, his (her) undivided interest is distributed among the surviving joint tenants.
- Judgment: means the concluding decision of a court on one or more requests for relief in one or more actions, as reflected in a judgment document. See Oregon Statutes 18.005
- judicial department: means the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, the Oregon Tax Court, the circuit courts and all administrative divisions of those courts, whether denominated as boards, commissions, committees or departments or by any other designation. See Oregon Statutes 174.113
- Legal representative: means a licensed attorney representing the registrant or other qualified applicant. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- legislative department: means the Legislative Assembly, the committees of the Legislative Assembly and all administrative divisions of the Legislative Assembly and its committees, whether denominated as boards, commissions or departments or by any other designation. See Oregon Statutes 174.114
- Legislative session: That part of a chamber's daily session in which it considers legislative business (bills, resolutions, and actions related thereto).
- Life estate: A property interest limited in duration to the life of the individual holding the interest (life tenant).
- Live birth: means the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of human conception, irrespective of the duration of pregnancy, that, after such expulsion or extraction, breathes or shows any other evidence of life such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta is attached. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Manage financial resources: means those actions necessary to obtain, administer and dispose of real and personal property, intangible property, business property, benefits and income. See Oregon Statutes 125.005
- Manager: means a person, not necessarily a member, that the members of a manager-managed limited liability company designate to manage the limited liability company's business and affairs. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Manager-managed limited liability company: means a limited liability company that is designated as a manager-managed limited liability company in the limited liability company's articles of organization or the articles of organization of which otherwise expressly provide that a manager will manage the limited liability company. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Marital deduction: The deduction(s) that can be taken in the determination of gift and estate tax liabilities because of the existence of a marriage or marital relationship.
- Medical certifier: means a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner licensed under the laws of this state or under the laws of Washington, Idaho or California who has treated a decedent within the 12 months preceding death. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Member: means a person that is qualified and accepted for membership in a cooperative. See Oregon Statutes 62.015
- Member: means a person with both an ownership interest in a limited liability company and all the rights and obligations of a member specified under this chapter. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Member: means a person that is entitled, under a domestic corporation's or foreign corporation's articles of incorporation or bylaws, to exercise any of the rights described in ORS § 65. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Member-managed limited liability company: means a limited liability company other than a manager-managed limited liability company. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Membership: means the rights and obligations a member has under this chapter. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Membership interest: means a member's collective rights in a limited liability company, including the member's share of profits and losses of the limited liability company, the right to receive distributions of the limited liability company's assets and any right to vote or participate in management. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Minor: means any person who has not attained 18 years of age. See Oregon Statutes 125.005
- Mutual benefit corporation: means a domestic corporation that is organized to serve and operates primarily to serve the mutual interests of a group of persons, but is not a public benefit corporation or religious corporation. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- National Bank: A bank that is subject to the supervision of the Comptroller of the Currency. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is a bureau of the U.S. Treasury Department. A national bank can be recognized because it must have "national" or "national association" in its name. Source: OCC
- Notice: means a notice described in ORS § 65. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Operating agreement: means any valid agreement, written or oral, of the member or members as to the affairs of a limited liability company and the conduct of the limited liability company's business. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Oral argument: An opportunity for lawyers to summarize their position before the court and also to answer the judges' questions.
- Organizer: means one of the signers of the initial articles of organization. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Outlays: Outlays are payments made (generally through the issuance of checks or disbursement of cash) to liquidate obligations. Outlays during a fiscal year may be for payment of obligations incurred in prior years or in the same year.
- Oversight: Committee review of the activities of a Federal agency or program.
- Party: includes an individual who was, is or is threatened to be made a named defendant or respondent in a proceeding. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Person: means an individual, corporation, association, firm, partnership, joint stock company, cooperative or foreign cooperative. See Oregon Statutes 62.015
- Person: means an individual or entity. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Person: means an individual or an entity. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Physician: means a person authorized to practice medicine, chiropractic or naturopathic medicine under the laws of this state or under the laws of Washington, Idaho or California, a physician assistant licensed under ORS § 677. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
- Plea: In a criminal case, the defendant's statement pleading "guilty" or "not guilty" in answer to the charges, a declaration made in open court.
- Power of attorney: A written instrument which authorizes one person to act as another's agent or attorney. The power of attorney may be for a definite, specific act, or it may be general in nature. The terms of the written power of attorney may specify when it will expire. If not, the power of attorney usually expires when the person granting it dies. Source: OCC
- Precedent: A court decision in an earlier case with facts and law similar to a dispute currently before a court. Precedent will ordinarily govern the decision of a later similar case, unless a party can show that it was wrongly decided or that it differed in some significant way.
- President pro tempore: A constitutionally recognized officer of the Senate who presides over the chamber in the absence of the Vice President. The President Pro Tempore (or, "president for a time") is elected by the Senate and is, by custom, the Senator of the majority party with the longest record of continuous service.
- Principal office: means the physical street address of an office, in or out of this state, where the principal executive offices of a domestic or foreign limited liability company are located and designated in the annual report or in the application for authority to transact business in this state. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Principal office: means the physical street address of the place, in or out of this state, where the principal executive offices of a domestic corporation or foreign corporation are located and that is designated as the principal office in the most recent annual report filed in accordance with ORS § 65. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Probable cause: A reasonable ground for belief that the offender violated a specific law.
- Probate: Proving a will
- Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
- Proceeding: means any threatened, pending or completed action, suit or proceeding whether civil, criminal, administrative or investigatory and whether formal or informal. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Proceeding: means a civil, criminal, administrative or investigatory action. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Prosecute: To charge someone with a crime. A prosecutor tries a criminal case on behalf of the government.
- Protected person: means a person for whom a protective order has been entered. See Oregon Statutes 125.005
- Protective order: means an order of a court appointing a fiduciary or any other order of the court entered for the purpose of protecting the person or estate of a respondent or protected person. See Oregon Statutes 125.005
- Protective proceeding: means a proceeding under this chapter. See Oregon Statutes 125.005
- Public benefit corporation: means a domestic corporation that:
(a) Is formed as a public benefit corporation under ORS § 65. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- public notice: means any legal publication which requires an affidavit of publication as required in ORS § 193. See Oregon Statutes 174.104
- Record: means a report that has been registered by the state registrar. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Record date: means the date established under ORS § 65. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Record of foreign live birth: means a document registered by the state registrar for a person born in a foreign country who may or may not be a citizen of the United States and who was adopted under the laws of this state. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Recourse: An arrangement in which a bank retains, in form or in substance, any credit risk directly or indirectly associated with an asset it has sold (in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles) that exceeds a pro rata share of the bank's claim on the asset. If a bank has no claim on an asset it has sold, then the retention of any credit risk is recourse. Source: FDIC
- Registration: means the process by which vital records and reports are accepted and incorporated into the official records of the Center for Health Statistics. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Religious corporation: means a domestic corporation that is formed as a religious corporation under ORS § 65. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
- Remote communication: means any method by which a person that is not physically present at the location at which a meeting occurs may nevertheless hear or otherwise communicate at substantially the same time with other persons at the meeting and have access to materials necessary to participate or vote in the meeting to the extent of the person's authorization to participate or vote. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Report: means a document, whether in paper or electronic format, containing information related to a vital event submitted by a person required to submit the information to the state registrar for the purpose of registering a vital event. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- Respondent: means a person for whom entry of a protective order is sought in a petition filed under ORS § 125. See Oregon Statutes 125.005
- Restitution: The court-ordered payment of money by the defendant to the victim for damages caused by the criminal action.
- Revenue: means all fees, tolls, excise taxes, assessments, property taxes and other taxes, rates, charges, rentals and other income or receipts derived by a state agency or to which a state agency is entitled. See Oregon Statutes 286A.001
- Revenue: means all fees, tolls, excise taxes, assessments, property taxes and other taxes, rates, charges, rentals and other income or receipts derived by a public body or to which a public body is entitled. See Oregon Statutes 287A.001
- Revocable trust: A trust agreement that can be canceled, rescinded, revoked, or repealed by the grantor (person who establishes the trust).
- Right of survivorship: The ownership rights that result in the acquisition of title to property by reason of having survived other co-owners.
- Service of process: The service of writs or summonses to the appropriate party.
- Shareholder: means a holder of shares of capital stock of a cooperative other than membership stock. See Oregon Statutes 62.015
- Sign: means to indicate a present intent to authenticate or adopt a document by:
(a) Affixing a symbol to the document;
(b) Inscribing or affixing a manual, facsimile or conformed signature on the document; or
(c) Attaching to, or logically associating with, an electronic transmission any electronic sound, symbol or process, including an electronic signature. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- State: includes a state or territory of the United States, the District of Columbia and New York City. See Oregon Statutes 432.005
- state government: means the executive department, the judicial department and the legislative department. See Oregon Statutes 174.111
- State Treasury: includes those financial assets the lawful custody of which are vested in the State Treasurer and the office of the State Treasurer relating to the custody of those financial assets. See Oregon Statutes 174.100
- Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
- Statute of limitations: A law that sets the time within which parties must take action to enforce their rights.
- Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
- Tenancy by the entirety: A type of joint tenancy between husband and wife that is recognized in some States. Neither party can sever the joint tenancy relationship; when a spouse dies, the survivor acquires full title to the property.
- Testate: To die leaving a will.
- Testator: A male person who leaves a will at death.

- Trustor: The person who makes or creates a trust. Also known as the grantor or settlor.
- United States: means the federal government and a district, authority, bureau, commission, department or any other agency of the United States. See Oregon Statutes 63.001
- Venue: The geographical location in which a case is tried.
- Violate: includes failure to comply. See Oregon Statutes 174.100
- Visitor: means a person appointed by the court under ORS § 125. See Oregon Statutes 125.005
- Vital statistics: means the aggregated data derived from records and reports of live birth, death, fetal death, induced termination of pregnancy, marriage, declaration of domestic partnership, dissolution of marriage, dissolution of domestic partnership and supporting documentation and related reports. - Vote: means an authorization by written ballot or written consent, where permitted, or by another method that a corporation specifies as an authorization. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Voting power: means the total number of votes entitled to be cast on an issue at the time the determination of voting power is made, excluding a vote that is contingent upon a condition or event occurring that has not occurred at the time. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
- Vulnerable youth: means a person who:
(a) Is at least 18 years of age but has not attained 21 years of age;
(b) Is eligible for classification under 8 U. See Oregon Statutes 125.005
- Writ: A formal written command, issued from the court, requiring the performance of a specific act.
- Written: means embodied as a document. See Oregon Statutes 65.001
