Rhode Island General Laws 27-20.6-1. Definitions
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the following meanings:
(1) “Insurer” means every nonprofit medical service corporation, hospital service corporation, health maintenance organization, or other insurer offering and/or insuring health services; the term shall in addition include any entity defined as an insurer under § 42-62-4.
(2) “Primary insurer” means the insurer primarily liable in accordance with the anti-duplication provisions established by regulations promulgated by the director of business regulation.

Terms Used In Rhode Island General Laws 27-20.6-1
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Insurer: means every nonprofit medical service corporation, hospital service corporation, health maintenance organization, or other insurer offering and/or insuring health services; the term shall in addition include any entity defined as an insurer under § 42-62-4.
