Rhode Island General Laws 45-21-14. Computation of years of service
(a) The retirement board fixes and determines, by appropriate rules and regulations, how much service in any year is equivalent to a year of service, but in computing the service or in computing the compensation it shall credit no period of more than a month’s duration during which a member was absent without pay, nor shall more than one year of service be credited on account of all service in one calendar year.
Terms Used In Rhode Island General Laws 45-21-14
- board: means the state retirement board created by chapter 8 of Title 36. See Rhode Island General Laws 45-21-2
- Member: means any person included in the membership of the retirement system as provided in §?45-21-8. See Rhode Island General Laws 45-21-2
- Retirement system: means the "municipal employees' retirement system of the state of Rhode Island" as defined in §?45-21-32. See Rhode Island General Laws 45-21-2
- Service: means service as an employee of a municipality of the state of Rhode Island as defined in subdivision (7). See Rhode Island General Laws 45-21-2
(b) Notwithstanding any other section of law, no member of the retirement system is permitted to purchase service credit for any portion of a year for which he or she is already receiving service credit in this retirement system.
