Terms Used In Rhode Island General Laws > Chapter 32-4 - Green Acres Land Acquisition

  • Devise: To gift property by will.
  • Director: means the director of administration or his or her designated representative;

    (2)  "Land" or "lands" means and includes real property, and improvements thereon, rights of way, water, riparian and other rights and easements, conservation easements, scenic easements, privileges, present and future estates, and interests of every kind and description in real property;

    (3)  "Local unit" means a city or town or any agency thereof; and

    (4)  "Recreation and conservation purposes" means and includes use of lands for agriculture, parks, natural areas, forests, camping, fishing, wetlands and marsh lands preservation, wildlife habitat, hunting, golfing, boating, winter sports, scenic preservation, and similar uses for public outdoor recreation and conservation of natural resources.   • Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
  • Precedent: A court decision in an earlier case with facts and law similar to a dispute currently before a court. Precedent will ordinarily govern the decision of a later similar case, unless a party can show that it was wrongly decided or that it differed in some significant way.
  • Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.
  • town: may be construed to include city; the words "town council" include city council; the words "town clerk" include city clerk; the words "ward clerk" include clerk of election district; the words "town treasurer" include city treasurer; and the words "town sergeant" include city sergeant.
