- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. All laws, bylaws, regulations, resolutions, and ordinances of the common council or of the board of trustees of an incorporated city or village or the township board of a township in this state may be read in evidence in all courts and in all proceedings before any officer, body, or board in which it is necessary to refer thereto, from a record thereof, kept by the clerk or recorder of the city, village, or township; or from a printed copy thereof, purporting to have been published by authority of the common council, board of trustees, or township board, in a newspaper published in such city, village, or township; or from any volume of ordinances, codification, or compilation of ordinances purporting to have been printed by authority of the common council or board of trustees of such city, village, or township; and the record, certified copy, volume, codification, or compilation shall be prima facie evidence of the existence and validity of such laws, regulations, resolutions, and ordinances, without proof of the enactment, publishing, or any other thing concerning the same.
