(1) For each live birth that occurs in this state, the administrator of the birthing facility, as defined in Section 26B-8-104, or other person responsible for completing and filing the birth certificate under Section 26B-8-104 shall obtain the social security numbers of each parent and provide those numbers to the state registrar.
Terms Used In Utah Code 26B-8-105
- Administrator: includes "executor" when the subject matter justifies the use. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Live birth: means the birth of a child who shows evidence of life after the child is entirely outside of the mother. See Utah Code 26B-8-101
- Office: means the Office of Vital Records and Statistics within the department. See Utah Code 26B-8-101
- Person: means :(24)(a) an individual;(24)(b) an association;(24)(c) an institution;(24)(d) a corporation;(24)(e) a company;(24)(f) a trust;(24)(g) a limited liability company;(24)(h) a partnership;(24)(i) a political subdivision;(24)(j) a government office, department, division, bureau, or other body of government; and(24)(k) any other organization or entity. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- State registrar: means the state registrar of vital records appointed under Section 26B-8-102. See Utah Code 26B-8-101
(2) Each parent shall furnish his or her social security number to the person authorized to obtain the numbers under Subsection (1) unless a court or administrative agency has determined there is good cause for not furnishing a number under Subsection (1).(3) The state registrar shall, as soon as practicable, supply those social security numbers to the Office of Recovery Services within the department.(4) The social security numbers obtained under this section may not be recorded on the child’s birth certificate.(5) The state may not use any social security number obtained under this section for any reason other than enforcement of child support orders in accordance with the federal Family Support Act of 1988, Pub. L. No. 100-485.
