Terms Used In Utah Code 53B-17-1204

  • Board: means the Utah Board of Higher Education described in Section 53B-1-402. See Utah Code 53B-1-101.5
  • Commission: means the SafeUT and School Safety Commission established in Section 53B-17-1203. See Utah Code 53B-17-1201
  • Huntsman Mental Health Institute: means the mental health and substance abuse treatment institute within the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics. See Utah Code 53B-17-1201
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes a state, district, or territory of the United States. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
     (1)(a) “LEA governing board” means:

          (1)(a)(i) for a school district, the local school board;
          (1)(a)(ii) for a charter school, the charter school governing board; or
          (1)(a)(iii) for the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, the State Board of Education.
     (1)(b) “Local education agency” or “LEA” means:

          (1)(b)(i) a school district;
          (1)(b)(ii) a charter school; or
          (1)(b)(iii) the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind.
(2) The commission shall coordinate:

     (2)(a) statewide efforts related to the SafeUT Crisis Line;
     (2)(b) with the State Board of Education and the board to promote awareness of the services available through the SafeUT Crisis Line; and
     (2)(c) with the state security chief appointed under Section 53-22-102 to ensure appropriate reporting described in Subsections 53B-17-1202(4) and (5).
(3) An LEA governing board shall inform students, parents, and school personnel about the SafeUT Crisis Line.

     (4)(a) Except as provided in Subsection (4)(b), the Huntsman Mental Health Institute may charge a fee to an institution of higher education or other entity for the use of the SafeUT Crisis Line in accordance with the method described in Subsection (4)(c).
     (4)(b) The Huntsman Mental Health Institute may not charge a fee to the State Board of Education or a local education agency for the use of the SafeUT Crisis Line.
     (4)(c) The commission shall establish a standard method for charging a fee described in Subsection (4)(a).
