(1) A person who finds lost or mislaid property and delivers it to a local law enforcement agency shall sign a statement included in a form provided by the agency, stating:

Terms Used In Utah Code 77-11d-103

  • Lost or mislaid property: includes a firearm or other dangerous weapon received by a law enforcement agency at an airport under Subsection 76-10-529(6). See Utah Code 77-11d-101
  • Owner: means the same as that term is defined in Section 77-11a-101. See Utah Code 77-11d-101
  • Person: means :
         (24)(a) an individual;
         (24)(b) an association;
         (24)(c) an institution;
         (24)(d) a corporation;
         (24)(e) a company;
         (24)(f) a trust;
         (24)(g) a limited liability company;
         (24)(h) a partnership;
         (24)(i) a political subdivision;
         (24)(j) a government office, department, division, bureau, or other body of government; and
         (24)(k) any other organization or entity. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
  • Property: includes both real and personal property. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
     (1)(a) the manner in which the property came into the person’s possession, including the time, date, and place;
     (1)(b) that the person does not know who owns the property;
     (1)(c) that, to the person’s knowledge, the property was not stolen;
     (1)(d) that the person’s possession of the property is not unlawful; and
     (1)(e) any information the person is aware of which could lead to a determination of the owner.
(2) Additional information may be requested by the agency receiving the property, as necessary.
