Terms Used In Wisconsin Statutes 563.908

  • Drawing: means any of the following methods for determining a winner of a game of chance:
      (a)    Random selection of a ticket portion or calendar portion from a container housing portions of all tickets or calendars purchased for the selection. See Wisconsin Statutes 563.03
  • Following: when used by way of reference to any statute section, means the section next following that in which the reference is made. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01
  • Qualified: when applied to any person elected or appointed to office, means that such person has done those things which the person was by law required to do before entering upon the duties of the person's office. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01
  • Raffle: means a game of chance for which tickets or calendars are sold and one or more drawings for prizes are held, but does not include a savings promotion program under…. See Wisconsin Statutes 563.03
  • State: when applied to states of the United States, includes the District of Columbia, the commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the several territories organized by Congress. See Wisconsin Statutes 990.01
  • Ticket: means an instrument that entitles the purchaser to one entry in a raffle other than a calendar raffle. See Wisconsin Statutes 563.03
  •    (1)    A raffle may not be conducted in this state unless any winner in the raffle is determined by a drawing with all tickets or calendars having an equal opportunity to win.
       (2)   Except as provided under sub. (3), a qualified organization under s. 563.907 may not conduct a raffle unless it first receives a license under s. 563.92.
       (3)   A qualified organization under s. 563.907 that has not received a license under s. 563.92 may conduct a raffle if all of the following apply:
          (a)    The raffle tickets are offered for sale only to members of the qualified organization.
          (b)    The prize is a cash award equal to one-half of the ticket proceeds, rounded up to the nearest whole dollar.
          (c)    The prize does not exceed $500.
          (d)    The qualified organization complies with the requirements of s. 563.935 and all other applicable requirements of this subchapter.
