Terms Used In Hawaii Revised Statutes 89C-1.5

  • Appropriate authority: means the governor, the respective mayors, the chief justice of the supreme court, the board of education, the board of regents, the state public charter school commission, the Hawaii health systems corporation board, the auditor, the ombudsman, and the director of the legislative reference bureau. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 89C-1.5
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.

As used in this chapter:

“Adjustment” means a change in wages, hours, benefits, or other term and condition of employment.

“Appropriate authority” means the governor, the respective mayors, the chief justice of the supreme court, the board of education, the board of regents, the state public charter school commission, the Hawaii health systems corporation board, the auditor, the ombudsman, and the director of the legislative reference bureau. These individuals or boards may make adjustments for their respective excluded employees.

“Excluded employee” or “employee” means any individual who is employed by an appropriate authority and is not included in an appropriate bargaining unit under § 89-6 and, therefore, is not entitled to collective bargaining coverage under chapter 89.
