- census: means the last preceding United States federal decennial census. See Indiana Code 33-41-2-1
- county salary: means that part of a court reporter's salary that is paid by the county. See Indiana Code 33-41-2-2
- Court reporter: A person who makes a word-for-word record of what is said in court and produces a transcript of the proceedings upon request.
- judicial circuit: means any county comprising a single judicial circuit or any combination of one (1) or more counties comprising a single judicial circuit. See Indiana Code 33-41-2-3
- Population: has the meaning set forth in Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- Probate: Proving a will
- Reporter: Makes a record of court proceedings and prepares a transcript, and also publishes the court's opinions or decisions (in the courts of appeals).
- salary: means the amount of the state salary and the amount of the county salary added together. See Indiana Code 33-41-2-5
- United States: includes the District of Columbia and the commonwealths, possessions, states in free association with the United States, and the territories. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
- Year: means a calendar year, unless otherwise expressed. See Indiana Code 1-1-4-5
