A registered nurse who is employed by a health facility as defined in KRS § 216B.015 may determine whether or not a patient is dead in accordance with the requirements of KRS
446.400. The nurse shall notify the patient’s attending physician or other appropriate practitioner of the death in accordance with the facility’s policy. The registered nurse is authorized to sign the provisional report of death as furnished by the state registrar of vital statistics.

- Nurse: means a person who is licensed or holds the privilege to practice under the provisions of this chapter as a registered nurse or as a licensed practical nurse. See Kentucky Statutes 314.011
- Registered nurse: means one who is licensed or holds the privilege under the provisions of this chapter to engage in registered nursing practice. See Kentucky Statutes 314.011
- State: when applied to a part of the United States, includes territories, outlying possessions, and the District of Columbia. See Kentucky Statutes 446.010
