- Abandoned animal: means an animal that has been deserted by its owner or keeper, excluding animals that are part of a population control effort. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907

- Adjourn: A motion to adjourn a legislative chamber or a committee, if passed, ends that day's session.

- Adult: means a person who has attained the age of 18 years. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
- Advance deposit wagering: means a form of pari-mutuel wagering on horse races in which a person places a wager in person or by telephone, Internet, mobile device or other electronic communication. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001
- Advance deposit wagering licensee: means a person that is licensed by the board pursuant to subchapter 7 to conduct advance deposit wagering. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001
- Adverse underwriting decision: means any of the following actions with respect to consumer insurance transactions involving insurance coverage that is individually underwritten:

See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 2204Aeronautics: means the act, practice of, or instruction in the art and science of transportation by aircraft, and operation, construction, repair or maintenance of aircraft, airports and air navigation facilities. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths. Affiliate: means any company that controls, is controlled by, or is under common control with another company. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131 affiliated: means a person that directly, or indirectly through one or more intermediaries, controls, is controlled by or is under common control with another person. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 2204 Affirmed: In the practice of the appellate courts, the decree or order is declared valid and will stand as rendered in the lower court. Agency: means a branch office of a financial institution at which all or part of the business of the institution is conducted, but the records pertaining to such business are maintained at another office of the institution, and not at such agency office. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 1451 Agricultural commodity: means any plant, or part thereof, or animal or animal product produced by a person, including farmers, ranchers, vineyardists, plant propagators, Christmas tree growers, aquaculturists, floriculturists, orchardists, foresters or other comparable persons, primarily for sale, consumption, propagation or other use by humans or animals. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1471-C Air carrier: means a person who undertakes, whether directly or indirectly or by lease or other arrangement, to engage in air commerce and is certificated under Federal Air Regulations. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Air commerce: means the carriage by aircraft of persons or property for compensation or hire, when that carriage is a major enterprise for profit and not merely incidental to a person's other business. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Air navigation facility: means any facility used in, available for use in, or designed for use in, aid of air navigation, including airports, lights, any apparatus or equipment for disseminating weather information, for signaling, for radio-directional finding, or for radio or other electrical communication, and any other structure or mechanism having a similar purpose for guiding or controlling flight in the air or the landing and takeoff of aircraft. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Air taxi: means a person who undertakes, whether directly or indirectly or by lease or other arrangement, to engage in air commerce and who possesses an Air Taxi Commercial Operators Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 135. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Air transportation: means the transportation of persons, property or mail by aircraft. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Aircraft: means any contrivance now known or hereafter invented, used or designed for navigation of or flight in the air, except a parachute or other contrivance designed for such navigation but used primarily as safety equipment. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Aircraft: means any machine or device used or designed for navigation of, or flight in, the air. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1471-C Aircraft dealer: means any person engaged in the sale or purchase or manufacture of new or used aircraft. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Aircrew member: means any individual who engages, as the person in command or as pilot, mechanic or member of the flight crew, in the navigation of aircraft while under way and any individual who is directly in charge of the inspection, maintenance, overhauling or repair of aircraft, aircraft engines, propellers or appliances. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Airmobile: means any vehicle propelled by mechanical power that is designed to travel upon a cushion of air on or within 2 feet of the water or land surface of the earth. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 13001 Airport: means any area of land or water which is used, or intended for use, for the landing and takeoff of aircraft, and any appurtenant areas which are used, or intended for use, for airport buildings or other airport facilities or rights-of-way, together with all airport buildings and facilities located thereon. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Airport hazard: means any structure, or vegetation, including trees, which obstructs the aerial approaches of a public airport. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Alcohol: means the substance known as ethyl alcohol, hydrated oxide of ethyl or spirit of wine which is commonly produced by the fermentation or distillation of grain, starch, molasses, sugar, potatoes or other substances, and includes all dilutions and mixtures of these substances. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1501 Child support order: means a support order for a child, including a child who has attained the age of majority under the law of the issuing state or foreign country. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 2802 Civic auditorium: means a municipal, county or state or a quasi-municipal, quasi-county or quasi-state owned or operated auditorium or civic center. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2 Civil aircraft: means any aircraft other than a public aircraft. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Civil forfeiture: The loss of ownership of property used to conduct illegal activity. Class A lounge: means a place where liquor is sold at tables, booths and counters. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2 Class A restaurant: means a place that is regularly used for the purpose of providing full meals for the public on the premises, that is equipped with a separate and complete kitchen and that maintains adequate dining room equipment and capacity for preparing and serving full meals upon the premises. Clone: means a hemp plant produced using any part of another hemp plant other than the seeds of that hemp plant. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2231 Club: means a group of individuals incorporated and operating in a bona fide manner solely for purposes of recreational, social, patriotic or fraternal nature and not for pecuniary gain. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Commercial applicator: means any person, whether or not the person is a private applicator with respect to some uses, who uses or supervises the use of any limited or restricted-use pesticides on any property other than as provided by subsection 22, or who uses general-use pesticides in custom application on such property. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1471-C commercial lease: means a nonresidential tenancy of premises by a for-profit business entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 14 Sec. 6017 Commission: means the Maine Commission on Indigent Legal Services under section 1801. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1802 Commission: means the State Liquor and Lottery Commission established in Title 5, section 12004?G, subsection 14. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2 Commission: means the Maine Small Business and Entrepreneurship Commission. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 13031 Commission: means the Maine Milk Commission. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2951 Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Transportation or the commissioner's designee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Environmental Protection. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1741 Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Health and Human Services, a designee or an authorized representative. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 101 Commissioner: means the Commissioner of Economic and Community Development or the commissioner's designee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2 Common law: The legal system that originated in England and is now in use in the United States. It is based on judicial decisions rather than legislative action. Community development credit union: means a credit union, as defined in subsection 12, of which a majority of the field of membership meets the definition of low-income in subsection 24?A. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131 Community-based AIDS organization: means a nonprofit community organization whose primary purpose is to provide educational information on HIV-related illnesses, support to persons with HIV-related illnesses and assistance to families and others providing care and support to persons with HIV-related illnesses. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 19251 Commuter air carrier: means an air taxi which provides public transportation between at least 2 points in accordance with a published schedule or regularly operated flights. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Companion animal: means a cat or dog. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907 Company: means a corporation, partnership, business trust, association or similar organization organized under the laws of the United States, any political subdivisions of the United States or a country other than the United States. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 1011 complex: means the Maine Space Complex established pursuant to section 13203, subsection 1. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 13202 Compliance with a support order: means that the support obligor has obtained or maintained health insurance coverage if required by a support order and is: Credit sale: means any transaction with respect to which credit is granted or arranged by the seller. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 4597 Credit transaction: means any invitation to apply for credit, application for credit, extension of credit or credit sale. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 4597 Credit union: means a cooperative, nonprofit corporation organized pursuant to Part 8, or under corresponding provisions of any earlier law, and subject to the conditions and limitations as shall be set forth in Part 8. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131 Creditable service: means a person's membership service, the person's prior service and service for which credit is allowable under sections 17755 and 17756; section 17760, subsection 3; section 18258; sections 18355 and 18356; and section 18360, subsection 2. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 4101Equine activity sponsor: means an individual, group, club, partnership, corporation or other entity, whether operating for profit or nonprofit, that sponsors, organizes or provides the facilities for an equine activity, including, but not limited to: pony clubs; 4-H clubs; field trial clubs; hunt clubs; riding clubs; classes or programs sponsored by a school or college; therapeutic riding programs; and operators, instructors and promoters of equine facilities at which equine activities are held, including, but not limited to, stables, clubhouses, ponyride strings, fairs and arenas. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 4101 Equine event: means an event in which an equine activity occurs, including, but not limited to, fairs, competitions, performances or parades that involve any breed of equine and any of the equine disciplines, including, but not limited to, dressage, hunter and jumper horse shows, grand prix jumping, 3-day events, combined training, 4-H events, Pony Club events, rodeos, driving, pulling, cutting, reining, team penning, barrel racing, polo, steeplechasing, endurance or nonendurance trail riding, English and western performance riding, games, packing, recreational riding and hunting. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 4101 Equine professional: means a person engaged for compensation:

See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 4101equipment: as used in this chapter mean any and all services, articles or things that are used by or furnished to the State or any department or agency thereof, and any and all printing, binding, publication of laws, journals and reports. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1812 Equipment purchases: means the purchase of new or updated equipment and any capital improvements necessary to use the new or updated equipment by career and technical education centers or career and technical education regions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903 Equitable: Pertaining to civil suits in "equity" rather than in "law." In English legal history, the courts of "law" could order the payment of damages and could afford no other remedy. See damages. A separate court of "equity" could order someone to do something or to cease to do something. See, e.g., injunction. In American jurisprudence, the federal courts have both legal and equitable power, but the distinction is still an important one. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 19201 Fair Debt Collection Practices Act: The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is a set of United States statutes added as Title VIII of the Consumer Credit Protection Act. Its purpose is to ensure ethical practices in the collection of consumer debts and to provide consumers with an avenue for disputing and obtaining validation of debt information in order to ensure the information's accuracy. It is often used in conjunction with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 13-C Sec. 1301Farm nutrient: means a substance or recognized plant nutrient, element or compound that is used or sold for its plant nutritive content or its claimed nutritive value for use in growing crops. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 4201 federal Affordable Care Act: means the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Public Law 111-148, as amended by the federal Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, Public Law 111-152, and any amendments to or regulations or guidance issued under those acts. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 14 Federal air regulations: means the regulations of the Federal Aviation Administration issued under the authority of the "Federal Aviation Act of 1958" as amended, or any federal regulations superseding those issued under the authority of the Act. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation: A government corporation that insures the deposits of all national and state banks that are members of the Federal Reserve System. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 19002 Federal poverty level: means the nonfarm income official poverty line for a family of the size involved, as defined by the federal Office of Management and Budget and revised annually in accordance with the United States Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1981, Section 673, Subsection 2. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 3762 Federal Reserve System: The central bank of the United States. The Fed, as it is commonly called, regulates the U.S. monetary and financial system. The Federal Reserve System is composed of a central governmental agency in Washington, D.C. (the Board of Governors) and twelve regional Federal Reserve Banks in major cities throughout the United States. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001 Gambling facility: means a race track, off-track betting facility, high-stakes beano or beano facility, game of chance facility, slot machine facility or casino. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001 Gambling services: means any goods or services provided to an operator licensed under this chapter or at a gambling facility that are used directly in connection with the operation of a slot machine or table game, including, but not limited to, associated equipment, maintenance, security services or junket services, and excluding slot machine or table game distribution by a slot machine distributor or table game distributor. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001 Gambling services vendor: means a person who is licensed under this chapter to provide gambling services. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001 Gaming employee: means any person connected directly with a gambling facility, including cashiers, change personnel, counting room personnel, hosts, persons who extend credit or offer complimentary services, machine mechanics, security personnel, supervisors or managers. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001 Garnishment: Generally, garnishment is a court proceeding in which a creditor asks a court to order a third party who owes money to the debtor or otherwise holds assets belonging to the debtor to turn over to the creditor any of the debtor General ATV enforcement: means Level 1 or Level 2 enforcement. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 10321 General fund: means the fund created or established as provided in section 6007. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903 General public benefit: means a material positive impact on society and the environment, taken as a whole, assessed against a 3rd-party standard, from the business and operations of a benefit corporation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 13-C Sec. 1802 General use pesticide: means any pesticide that is required to be registered by the board pursuant to Title 7, chapter 103, subchapter 2?A and that is not a restricted use or limited use pesticide, as defined in this section. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1471-C General use pesticide dealer: means any person who distributes general use pesticides. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1471-C Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value. Ginseng: means any part of the plant known as Wild American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius 1). See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2221 GIS: means an entire formula, pattern, compilation, program, device, method, technique, process, digital data base or system that electronically records, stores, reproduces and manipulates by computer geographic information system data. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1991 GIS data: means geographic information that has been compiled and digitized for use in geographic information systems by a state agency, either alone or in cooperation with other agencies. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1991 GIS services: means the process of gathering, storing, maintaining and providing geographic information system data for geographic information systems. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1991 Golf course: means a commercially operated facility, whether publicly or privately owned, that offers golfing facilities to the public for a fee, including a regulation-size golf course of no fewer than 9 holes and an average total of not less than 1,200 yards per 9 holes, that has a value of not less than $100,000 and that has adequate facilities for the sale and consumption of liquor. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2 Governmental unit: means any county, municipality, school administrative district, community school district, public waste disposal corporation as authorized under Title 38, section 1304?B or other quasi-municipal corporation within the State, including any corporation owned entirely by a municipality and providing water, sewer or electric service or performing other essential governmental functions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 19201 Holding company: means any company that directly or indirectly owns or has the power or right to control a company that holds or applies for a slot machine operator license or a slot machine distributor license, except that a company that has a beneficial ownership of more than 10% of the voting securities of a publicly traded corporation is not a holding company. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001 Home rule authority: means the powers granted to municipalities under chapter 111; section 3001; and the Constitution of Maine, Article VIII, Part Second. Junket services: means an arrangement to facilitate the attendance at a gambling facility of customers selected by reason of their propensity to gamble by providing to those customers any consideration, including cash, credits or rebates or reduced charges for goods or services such as transportation, lodging, food, beverages or entertainment. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907 Kennel: means 5 or more dogs kept in a single location under one ownership for breeding, hunting, show, training, field trials, sledding, competition or exhibition purposes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907 Key executive: means any executive of a licensee having power to exercise a significant influence over decisions concerning the operation or distribution of slot machines, table games or gambling services. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001 key participant: means a person who, as determined by the commissioner by rule, has a direct or indirect financial interest in an entity producing hemp, such as an owner or partner in a partnership. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 3291 Lien: A claim against real or personal property in satisfaction of a debt. Life estate: A property interest limited in duration to the life of the individual holding the interest (life tenant). Limited use pesticide: means any pesticide or pesticide use classified for limited use by the board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1471-C Lineal descendant: Direct descendant of the same ancestors. Liquor: means spirits, wine, malt liquor or hard cider, or any substance containing liquor, intended for human consumption, that contains more than 1/2 of 1% of alcohol by volume. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1732 manufacturer: includes the importer or first domestic distributor of the food package if the person who manufactured or assembled the food package or whose brand name is affixed to the food package does not have a presence in the United States. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2900 Milk plant: means any place, premises or establishment where milk or milk products are collected, handled, processed, stored, pasteurized, aseptically processed, bottled or otherwise prepared for distribution. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2900 Milk products: means cream, light cream, light whipping cream, heavy cream, heavy whipping cream, whipped cream, whipped light cream, sour cream, acidified sour cream, cultured sour cream, milk, butter, evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, nonfat dry milk solids, half-and-half, sour half-and-half, acidified sour half-and-half, cultured sour half-and-half, concentrated milk and milk products, skim milk, reconstituted or recombined milk and milk products, low-fat milk, light milk, reduced fat milk, homogenized milk, frozen milk concentrate, eggnog, cultured milk, buttermilk, yogurt, cottage cheese, creamed cottage cheese, acidified milk, low-sodium milk, lactose-reduced milk, aseptically processed and packaged milk and milk products, milk with added safe and suitable microbial organisms and any other milk product, frozen dairy dessert or frozen dairy dessert mix, cheese or other product designated as a milk product by the commissioner that is made by the addition or subtraction of milkfat or addition of safe and suitable optional ingredients for protein, vitamin or mineral fortification. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2900 Notarial act: includes taking an acknowledgment, administering an oath or affirmation, taking a verification on oath or affirmation, witnessing or attesting a signature, certifying or attesting a copy and noting a protest of a negotiable instrument or loss in mercantile usage. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1902 Notarial officer: means a notary public or other individual authorized to perform a notarial act. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1828 Officer: means an employee of a financial institution who has been given managerial or other high-level duties by the governing body of the financial institution. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131 Official stamp: means a physical image affixed to or embossed on a tangible record or an electronic image attached to or logically associated with an electronic record and includes an official notary seal. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1826-B pest: means any insect, rodent, nematode, fungus, weed, or any other form of terrestrial or aquatic plant or animal life or virus, bacteria or other micro-organism, except viruses, bacteria or other micro-organisms on or in living humans or other living animals, that the commissioner declares to be a pest. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1471-C pesticide: means any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying, repelling or mitigating any pest, and any substance or mixture of substances intended for use as a plant regulator, defoliant or desiccant. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1471-C Pesticide dealer: means any person who distributes limited or restricted use pesticides. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1471-C Pet: means a dog, cat or other domesticated animal commonly kept as a companion, but does not include tamed animals that are ordinarily considered wild animals or livestock. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907 Pet food supplier: means any retail location located in the State that sells feeding supplies for pets or livestock. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907 Pet shop: means a place or vehicle in or on which any dogs, cats, rodents, reptiles, fish, pet birds, exotic birds or exotic animals not born and raised on those premises are kept for the purpose of sale to the public. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907 PFAS: means any member of the class of fluorinated organic chemicals containing at least one fully fluorinated carbon atom. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1732 Phthalates: means any member of the class of organic chemicals that are esters of phthalic acid and that contain 2 carbon chains located in the ortho position. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1732 Physical therapist: means a person who is licensed pursuant to this chapter to practice physical therapy. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 3111 Physical therapist assistant: means a person who is licensed pursuant to this chapter and who assists a physical therapist in specific components of treatment, prevention and educational interventions within the practice of physical therapy. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 3111 physiotherapy: means the provision of services in the scope of practice that is set forth in section 3111?A. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 3111 Pick-up contributions: means member contributions to the retirement system which are assumed and paid by the employer through a reduction of members' salaries for services rendered, in accordance with the United States Internal Revenue Code, Section 414(h), in lieu of employee contributions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001 Return: means any document, digital file or electronic data transmission containing information required by this Title to be reported to the State Tax Assessor. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 36 Sec. 111 reuse: means an alternative use of the base facility from its use as a military installation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 13083-H Revenues: means all fees, charges, money, profits, payments of principal of or interest on municipal securities and other investments, gifts, grants, contributions, appropriations and all other income derived or to be derived by the bank under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903 Revolving loan fund: means that revolving loan fund created under section 6006?A. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903 Rigid plastic container: means any formed or molded plastic container, except plastic bottles, with a capacity not less than 8 fluid ounces and not more than 5 gallons that retains the same shape whether full or empty. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1721 Roller-skating rink: means a building, facility or premises that provides an area used for roller skating. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 604 Safer alternative: means an alternative that, when compared to a chemical that it could replace, would reduce the potential for harm to human health or the environment or that has not been shown to pose the same or greater potential for harm to human health or the environment as that chemical. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 32 Sec. 1732 sale territory: means the area of primary sales responsibility expressly or implicitly designated by any agreement between a wholesale licensee and a certificate of approval holder for the brand or label of a certificate of approval holder. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 14 Sec. 6000 Shareholder: means both a record shareholder and a beneficial shareholder. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 13-C Sec. 1301 Ship chandler: means a retail establishment supplying provisions, including malt liquor and wine, to ships of foreign registry. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 604 Slot machine: means any mechanical, electrical or electronic device, contrivance or machine or other device, contrivance or machine that is available to play upon insertion of money or a token, credit or similar object or thing of value, the play of which by the element of chance may deliver or entitle the person playing the device, contrivance or machine to receive cash, tokens or credits to be exchanged for cash, merchandise or anything of value, whether the payoff is made automatically from the device, contrivance or machine or in any other manner, and includes progressive electronic gaming devices with a payoff that increases as the electronic gaming device is played. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001 Slot machine distributor: means a person who is licensed under this chapter to distribute slot machines and associated equipment for use in the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001 Slot machine facility: means a facility, not including a casino, at which a slot machine operator operates slot machines. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131 Supplier: means any person, firm or corporation that sells packages or packaging components to a distributor. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 2802Support order: means a judgment, decree or order, whether temporary, final or subject to modification, issued by a court or an administrative agency of competent jurisdiction for the support and maintenance of a child, including a child who has attained the age of majority under the law of the issuing state, or a child and the parent with whom the child is living, that provides for monetary support, health care, arrearages or reimbursement and may include related costs and fees, interest and penalties, income withholding, attorney's fees and other relief. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 2101 Support order: means a judgment, decree, order, decision or directive, whether temporary, final or subject to modification, issued in a state or foreign country for the benefit of a child, a spouse or a former spouse, that provides for monetary support, health care, arrearages, retroactive support or reimbursement for financial assistance provided to an individual obligee in place of child support. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 2802 Support order: means a judgment, decree or order, whether temporary, final or subject to modification, issued by a court or an administrative agency of competent jurisdiction for the support and maintenance of a child, including a child who has attained the age of majority under the law of the issuing state, or a child and the parent with whom the child is living, that provides for monetary support, health care, arrearages or reimbursement and may include related costs and fees, interest and penalties, income withholding, attorney's fees and other relief. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 10901 Surety bond: means a bond purchased by a tenant in lieu of making a security deposit when the function of the bond is to secure the performance of a lease or tenancy at will agreement for residential premises or any part of residential premises. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 14 Sec. 6031 Surimi: means an intermediate manufactured seafood product derived from minced fish meat, washed to remove water-soluble protein, blood or other undesirable components and mixed with additives, containing sugars or sodium, or both, to enhance its frozen storage and functional characteristics. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 6111 Surviving spouse: means the spouse alive at the time of the death of the member or former member. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001 Table game: means a card game, dice game or other game of chance, including, but not limited to, blackjack, poker, dice, craps, roulette, baccarat, money wheels, wheel of fortune or an electronic table game located in a casino. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001 Table game distributor: means a person who is licensed under this chapter to distribute table games and associated equipment for use in the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001 TANF: means the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, under the United States Social Security Act, as amended by PRWORA. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 3762 Tax: means the total amount required to be paid, withheld and paid over or collected and paid over with respect to estimated or actual tax liability under this Title, any credit or reimbursement allowed or paid pursuant to this Title that is recoverable by the assessor and any amount assessed by the assessor pursuant to this Title, including any interest or penalties provided by law. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001 Telecommunications: means , but is not limited to, the process of transmitting and receiving any information, including voice, data and video, by any medium, including wire, microwave, fiberoptics, radio, laser and satellite. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1972 Temporary restraining order: Prohibits a person from an action that is likely to cause irreparable harm. This differs from an injunction in that it may be granted immediately, without notice to the opposing party, and without a hearing. It is intended to last only until a hearing can be held. Testify: Answer questions in court. Testimony: Evidence presented orally by witnesses during trials or before grand juries. Third-party administrator: means an entity that is paying or processing medical insurance claims for a resident. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 3952 Third-party standard: means a recognized standard for defining, reporting and assessing corporate social and environmental performance that:
A. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 13-C Sec. 1802Thrift institution: means a savings bank or a savings and loan association organized under the prior laws of this State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131 Timber and grass: when used in reference to the public reserved lots, so called, in unorganized territory in the State, means all growth of every description on said lots. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72 Tort: A civil wrong or breach of a duty to another person, as outlined by law. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2900 Trauma-informed services: means services that acknowledge and are informed by the widespread impact of trauma and recognize the potential paths for recovery; recognize the unique signs and symptoms of trauma in clients, families and staff; respond by fully integrating knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures and practices; and seek to actively avoid retraumatization. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 3762 Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence. Tribunal: means a court, administrative agency or quasi-judicial entity authorized to establish, enforce or modify support orders or to determine parentage. Source: OCC Uniform location agreement: means a written agreement in a form prescribed by the board between a slot machine operator or casino operator and a slot machine distributor or table game distributor that governs the terms and conditions of that agreement, including the placement of slot machines or table games on the premises of the slot machine operator or casino operator. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 8 Sec. 1001 Unincorporated place: means a place which is not incorporated as a municipality. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2 United States: includes territories and the District of Columbia. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72 Unorganized territory: means all areas located within the jurisdiction of the State, except areas located within organized cities and towns, and Indian reservations. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907 Use: means , with respect to watercraft, operate, navigate or employ. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 13001 Utility airport: means an airport that is constructed for and intended to be used by propeller-driven aircraft of 12,500 pounds maximum gross weight and less. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 6 Sec. 3 Utilization rate: means the percentage of milk produced that is used as Class I or fluid milk, the percentage of milk produced that is used as Class II milk and the percentage of milk that is used as Class III milk. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 10001 Venue: The geographical location in which a case is tried. Verdict: The decision of a petit jury or a judge. Verification on oath or affirmation: means a declaration made by an individual on oath or affirmation before a notarial officer that a statement in a record is true. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1902 Vertebrate: means a subphylum of chordate animals comprising those having a brain enclosed in a skull or cranium and a segmented spinal column, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907 Veterinarian: means a person licensed as a veterinarian in any state. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 4151 Veto: The procedure established under the Constitution by which the President/Governor refuses to approve a bill or joint resolution and thus prevents its enactment into law. A regular veto occurs when the President/Governor returns the legislation to the house in which it originated. The President/Governor usually returns a vetoed bill with a message indicating his reasons for rejecting the measure. In Congress, the veto can be overridden only by a two-thirds vote in both the Senate and the House. Victim: means an individual who has been subject to domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 14 Sec. 6000 Victim advocate: work with prosecutors and assist the victims of a crime. Viral positivity: means demonstrated presence of HIV. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 19201 Voir dire: The process by which judges and lawyers select a petit jury from among those eligible to serve, by questioning them to determine knowledge of the facts of the case and a willingness to decide the case only on the evidence presented in court. "Voir dire" is a phrase meaning "to speak the truth." Voter: means a person registered to vote. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 2001 wages: means all remuneration for employment as defined, including the cash value of all remuneration paid in any medium other than cash, except that such term shall not include that part of such remuneration which, even if it were for "employment" within the meaning of the Federal Insurance Contributions Act, would not constitute "wages" within the meaning of that Act. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 19002 Water safety zone: means the area of water within 200 feet of shoreline, whether the shoreline of the mainland or of an island. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 13001 Watercraft: means any type of vessel, boat, canoe or craft capable of being used as a means of transportation on water, other than a seaplane, including motors, electronic and mechanical equipment and other machinery, whether permanently or temporarily attached, that are customarily used in the operations of the watercraft. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 13001 Weed: means any plant which grows where not wanted. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1471-C Well cared for: means that the animal is receiving necessary sustenance, necessary medical attention, proper shelter, protection from the weather and humanely clean conditions and that the animal has not been nor is being injured, overworked, tormented, tortured, abandoned, poisoned, beaten, mutilated or exposed to a poison with the intent that it be taken by the animal. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907 Wholesale licensee: means a person licensed by the bureau under section 1401 as an in-state wholesaler. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 28-A Sec. 2 Wolf hybrid: includes a mammal that is represented by its owner to be a wolf hybrid, coyote hybrid, coydog or any other kind of wild canid hybrid. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907 Work center: means a program that provides vocational rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities to enable those individuals to maximize their opportunities for employment, including career advancement.
