Ohio Code 5107.161 – Written notice prior to sanction
Before a county department of job and family services sanctions an assistance group under section 5107.16 of the Revised Code, the state department of job and family services shall provide the assistance group written notice of the sanction in accordance with rules adopted under section 5107.05 of the Revised Code. The written notice shall include a provision printed in bold type face that informs the assistance group that, not later than fifteen calendar days after the state department mailed the written notice to the assistance group, the assistance group may request, for the purpose of explaining why the assistance group believes it should not be sanctioned, a state hearing under division (B) of section 5101.35 of the Revised Code which, at the assistance group’s request, may be preceded by a county conference with the county department. The written notice shall include either the telephone number of an Ohio works first ombudsperson provided for under section 329.07 of the Revised Code or the toll-free telephone number of the state department of job and family services that the assistance group may call to obtain the telephone number of an Ohio works first ombudsperson.

- Assistance group: means a group of individuals treated as a unit for purposes of determining eligibility for and the amount of assistance provided under Ohio works first. See Ohio Code 5107.02
- Ohio works first: means the program established by this chapter known as temporary assistance for needy families in Title IV-A. See Ohio Code 5107.02
- state: means the state of Ohio. See Ohio Code 1.59
