Terms Used In Utah Code > Title 53 > Chapter 2a > Part 3 - Statewide Mutual Aid Act
- Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
- Director: means the division director appointed under Section 53-2a-103 or the director's designee. See Utah Code 53-2a-102
- Disaster: means an event that:(5)(a) causes, or threatens to cause, loss of life, human suffering, public or private property damage, or economic or social disruption resulting from attack, internal disturbance, natural phenomena, or technological hazard; and(5)(b) requires resources that are beyond the scope of local agencies in routine responses to emergencies and accidents and may be of a magnitude or involve unusual circumstances that require response by government, not-for-profit, or private entities. See Utah Code 53-2a-102
- Division: means the Division of Emergency Management created in Section 53-2a-103. See Utah Code 53-2a-102
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Law enforcement officer: means the same as that term is defined in Section
53-13-103 . See Utah Code 53-1-102- Municipality: means the same as that term is defined in Section 10-1-104. See Utah Code 53-2a-102
- Officer: means a person who is elected or appointed to an office or position within a political subdivision. See Utah Code 53-2a-102
- Participating political subdivision: means each county, municipality, public safety district, and public safety interlocal entity that has not adopted a resolution under Section 53-2a-306 withdrawing itself from the statewide mutual aid system. See Utah Code 53-2a-302
- Person: means :
(24)(a) an individual;(24)(b) an association;(24)(c) an institution;(24)(d) a corporation;(24)(e) a company;(24)(f) a trust;(24)(g) a limited liability company;(24)(h) a partnership;(24)(i) a political subdivision;(24)(j) a government office, department, division, bureau, or other body of government; and(24)(k) any other organization or entity. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5- Political subdivision: means the same as that term is defined in Section 11-61-102. See Utah Code 53-2a-102
- Process: means a writ or summons issued in the course of a judicial proceeding. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Property: includes both real and personal property. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
- Public safety district: means a special district under Title 17B, Limited Purpose Local Government Entities - Special Districts, or special service district under Title 17D, Chapter 1, Special Service District Act, that provides public safety service. See Utah Code 53-2a-302
- Public safety interlocal entity: means an interlocal entity under Title 11, Chapter 13, Interlocal Cooperation Act, that provides public safety service. See Utah Code 53-2a-302
- Public safety service: means a service provided to the public to protect life and property and includes fire protection, police protection, emergency medical service, and hazardous material response service. See Utah Code 53-2a-302
- Requesting political subdivision: means a participating political subdivision that requests emergency assistance under Section 53-2a-207 from one or more other participating political subdivisions. See Utah Code 53-2a-302
- Responding political subdivision: means a participating political subdivision that responds to a request under Section 53-2a-307 from a requesting political subdivision. See Utah Code 53-2a-302
- State: means the state of Utah. See Utah Code 53-2a-302
- State of emergency: means a condition in any part of this state that requires state government emergency assistance to supplement the local efforts of the affected political subdivision to save lives and to protect property, public health, welfare, or safety in the event of a disaster, or to avoid or reduce the threat of a disaster. See Utah Code 53-2a-102
- system: means the aggregate of all participating political subdivisions and the state. See Utah Code 53-2a-302
- Writing: includes :
(48)(a) printing;(48)(b) handwriting; and(48)(c) information stored in an electronic or other medium if the information is retrievable in a perceivable format. See Utah Code 68-3-12.5
