Terms Used In Maine Revised Statutes > Title 9-B > Part 8 - Credit Unions

  • Abandoned animal: means an animal that has been deserted by its owner or keeper, excluding animals that are part of a population control effort. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907
  • accumulated contributions: includes as much of the employer's contribution in the Retirement Allowance Fund as is needed to reach 7. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Acknowledgment: means a declaration by an individual before a notarial officer that the individual has signed a record for the purpose stated in the record and, if the record is signed in a representative capacity, that the individual signed the record with proper authority and signed it as the act of the individual or entity identified in the record. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1902
  • Act: means the Maine Governmental Facilities Authority Act. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 4 Sec. 1603
  • Act: means the Animal Welfare Act. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907
  • Actuarial equivalent: means an amount of equal value when computed at the discount rate contained in actuarial assumptions adopted by the board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Actuary: means the individual or the organization designated by the board to be the technical advisor to the board under section 17107. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Adjourn: A motion to adjourn a legislative chamber or a committee, if passed, ends that day's session.
  • Adjusted base minimum price: means the base minimum price plus any amounts established by the Maine Milk Commission to reflect the increased costs of production pursuant to section 2954, subsection 2, paragraph A. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3152
  • Administrative unit: means the organization certified by the federal Small Business Administration to administer the Small Business Development Center Program in this State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 13031
  • Adult: means a person who has attained the age of 18 years. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
  • Affirmed: In the practice of the appellate courts, the decree or order is declared valid and will stand as rendered in the lower court.
  • Agency: means a branch office of a financial institution at which all or part of the business of the institution is conducted, but the records pertaining to such business are maintained at another office of the institution, and not at such agency office.   • Allegation: something that someone says happened.
  • Amortization: Paying off a loan by regular installments.
  • an event the result of which is determined by chance: includes but is not limited to a shuffle of a deck of cards, a roll of a die or dice or a random drawing or generation of an object that may include, but is not limited to, a card, a die, a number or simulations of any of these. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 17 Sec. 1831
  • Ancillary obligation: means the obligation of the bond bank in connection with liquor operation revenue bonds issued under this subchapter under any of the following entered into by the bond bank:

  • Animal: means every living, sentient creature not a human being. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 3907

  • Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
  • Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
  • Antibody to HIV: means the specific immunoglobulin produced by the body's immune system in response to HIV. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 19201
  • Any election: means primary and general elections and referenda, whether regular or special. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
  • Appellate: About appeals; an appellate court has the power to review the judgement of another lower court or tribunal.
  • Application for credit: means any communication, oral or written, by a person to a creditor requesting an extension of credit to that person or to any other person, and includes any procedure involving the renewal or alteration of credit privileges or the changing of the name of the person to whom credit is extended;

  • Appraisal: A determination of property value.

  • Attorney-at-law: A person who is legally qualified and licensed to practice law, and to represent and act for clients in legal proceedings.
  • Attorney-in-fact: A person who, acting as an agent, is given written authorization by another person to transact business for him (her) out of court.

  • Automobile recycling business: means the business premises of a dealer or a recycler licensed under Title 29?A, sections 851 to 1112 who purchases or acquires salvage vehicles for the purpose of reselling the vehicles or component parts of the vehicles or rebuilding or repairing salvage vehicles for the purpose of resale or for selling the basic materials in the salvage vehicles, as long as 80% of the business premises specified in the site plan in section 3755?A, subsection 1, paragraph C is used for automobile recycling operations.
