- Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
- Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- Another: when used to designate the owner of property which is the subject of an offense, includes not only natural persons but also every other owner of property. See Ohio Code 1.02
- Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
- Board of county commissioners: includes the legislative authority of a county established under Section 3 of Article X, Ohio Constitution, or Chapter 302 of the Revised Code. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Business service user: means a user of business service that provides telecommunications service, including 9-1-1 service, to end users through a publicly or privately owned or controlled telephone switch. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Consumer: means the end user for whom the prepaid wireless calling service is provided, to whom the transfer effected or license given by a sale is or is to be made or given, to whom the prepaid wireless calling service is charged, or to whom the admission is granted. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Core services: means the base set of services needed to process a 9-1-1 call on an emergency services internet-protocol network. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
- Customer premises equipment: means telecommunications equipment, including telephone instruments, on the premises of a public safety answering point that is used in answering and responding to 9-1-1 system calls. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Emergency response location: means an additional location identification that provides a specific location. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Emergency service: means emergency law enforcement, firefighting, ambulance, rescue, and medical service. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Emergency service provider: means the state highway patrol and an emergency service department or unit of a subdivision or that provides emergency service to a subdivision under contract with the subdivision. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Emergency services internet-protocol network: means a managed internet-protocol network that is used for emergency services communications and provides the internet-protocol transport infrastructure upon which independent application platforms and core services can be deployed, including those necessary for providing next generation 9-1-1 services. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
- Final plan: means a final plan adopted under division (B) of section 128. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Grantor: The person who establishes a trust and places property into it.
- in writing: includes any representation of words, letters, symbols, or figures; this provision does not affect any law relating to signatures. See Ohio Code 1.59
- Internet: means the international computer network of both federal and nonfederal interoperable packet switched data networks, including the graphical subnetwork known as the world wide web. See Ohio Code 1.59
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Legacy: A gift of property made by will.
- Multiline telephone system: means a system to which both of the following apply:
(1) The system consists of common control units, telephone sets, control hardware and software, and adjunct systems, including network and premises-based systems. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Municipal corporation in the county: includes any municipal corporation that is wholly contained in the county and each municipal corporation located in more than one county that has a greater proportion of its territory in the county to which the term refers than in any other county. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Operator of a multiline telephone system: means an entity to which both of the following apply:
(1) The entity manages or operates a multiline telephone system through which an end user may initiate communication using the 9-1-1 system. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Person: includes an individual, corporation, business trust, estate, trust, partnership, and association. See Ohio Code 1.59
- Population: means that shown by the most recent regular federal census. See Ohio Code 1.59
- Provider of a prepaid wireless calling service: means a wireless service provider that provides a prepaid wireless calling service. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Public safety answering point: means an entity responsible for receiving requests for emergency services sent by dialing 9-1-1 within a specified territory and processing those requests for emergency services according to a specific operational policy that includes directly dispatching the appropriate emergency service provider, relaying a message to the appropriate emergency service provider, or transferring the request for emergency services to the appropriate emergency service provider. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
- Reseller: means a nonfacilities-based provider of wireless service that provides wireless service under its own name to one or more end users in this state using the network of a wireless service provider. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Rule: includes regulation. See Ohio Code 1.59
- Seller: means a person that sells a prepaid wireless calling service to another person by retail sale. See Ohio Code 128.01
- state: means the state of Ohio. See Ohio Code 1.59
- Steering committee: means the statewide 9-1-1 steering committee established by division (A)(1) of section 128. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Subdivision: means a county, municipal corporation, township, township fire district, joint fire district, township police district, joint police district, joint ambulance district, or joint emergency medical services district that provides emergency service within its territory, or that contracts with another municipal corporation, township, or district or with a private entity to provide such service; and a state college or university, port authority, or park district of any kind that employs law enforcement officers that act as the primary police force on the grounds of the college or university or port authority or in the parks operated by the district. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Subdivision served by a public safety answering point: means a subdivision that provides emergency service for any part of its territory that is located within the territory of a public safety answering point whether the subdivision provides the emergency service with its own employees or pursuant to a contract. See Ohio Code 128.01
- telephone company: includes a wireline service provider, a wireless service provider, and any entity that is a covered 9-1-1 service provider under 47 C. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Voice over internet protocol: means technologies for the delivery of voice communications and multimedia sessions over internet-protocol networks, including private networks or the internet. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Whoever: includes all persons, natural and artificial; partners; principals, agents, and employees; and all officials, public or private. See Ohio Code 1.02
- Wireless service: means federally licensed commercial mobile service as defined in 47 U. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Wireless service provider: means any of the following that provides wireless service to one or more end users in this state:
(1) A facilities-based provider;
(2) A mobile virtual network operator;
(3) A mobile other licensed operator. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Wireline service: means basic local exchange service, as defined in section 4927. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Wireline service provider: means a facilities-based provider of wireline service to one or more end users in this state. See Ohio Code 128.01
- Wireline telephone network: means the selective router and data base processing systems, trunking and data wiring cross connection points at the public safety answering point, and all other voice and data components of the 9-1-1 system. See Ohio Code 128.01
